Default Increasing the population cap?
Hi all,

I'm currently using CAW to create a custom version of Appaloosa Plains. I've hit the point where I have too many sims (155), so the game goes ahead and deletes some of my homeless sims without my consent. The thing is, I still need more sims (fill gaps in careers, tend bars, etc) so i was wondering if there was any way to increase the cap, perhaps using Nrass StoryProgression mod (though reading the description, it might just stop new pregnancies and not stop the deletion).

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

EDIT: With pets, the total number of entities comes to 200-210, or thereabouts. For whatever thats worth.

If you have the story progression mod you can generally set the cap as to as high as you wish. I have mine set for 250 for Sims alone; it's under the General Options, then Sim options there, you can also set the number cap for pets there as well. I never had any Sims deleted but then again I disabled emigration so people don't get deleted.

OK, new problem: I can't run StoryProgression in CAW. So that option will not work.

(It shows up in the actual game, but when using Edit in Game, the mod's options don't show up).

I've posted on NRaas's wikispaces page, maybe he'll have something.

Oh! If anyone reading this knows what's happening when those Sims disappear -- are they being deleted, or are they moving out? In other words, might disabling EA's Story Progression work?

The cap exists for a reason. I have found as a town's population approaches then exceeds 200 sims, the game starts having significant problems. Things like kids bunched up at the school and taking all day to get in. Same thing happens to sims going to work. Or Grimmy will show up and kill off 10 or more sims at a time. Or all of the NPCs will converge on your active sim's location, blocking doors and hallways.

I suspect you have way too many residential lots. The game's native story progression tends to pack each lot to the limit. One solution is to change the zoning on your residential lots to no visitors allowed. Better yet, delete the excess lots.
