The Sims 2 official site closed Jan 14 (and hadn't worked properly since November at least.) There's still plenty of players who love Sims 2 (and don't like 3) and sites like here, MATY, Insiminator, etc to keep it going.

The official sims 2 site closed because EA were too stupid to realize that even if the game is getting old there are still loads of people playing it.

But as Matt says, the game is living on. A lot of the big communities are continuing like before (I want to add Garden of Shadows to the list above). As for the official site, it seemed to be dying off already (mostly because of EA closing down parts of it), and people realizing there were better ways to exchange stories and downloadable items than through the exchange.

I don't think that was it at all. I think it was simply a business decision based on whether it was profitable or not to keep the site going.

The game is no longer having new copies being made, but there are thousands out there on sites like ebay and Amazon. The game is discontinued, but there are still a bunch of people playing the game.

I think it was less "is it profitable to keep the site going" and more "if we leave it online, people will continue to use it instead of moving on to our shiny new Sims 4 Social Always Online Hope You Like Microtransactions And Pretty Much Just Shut Up And Give Us Your Money".

Welcome to Mod The Sims, PrenOL_4000, and hope you enjoy being part of the community

The Sims 2 is alive and well here, at hundreds of fan sites and on hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of computers. Plenty of custom content can still be had for Sims 2, and more is being created by fans and uploaded to the sites as I type.

The closure of the official Sims 2 site was stated as being a statistical issue. The unstated reason, I suspect, is that those fans had decided that their time was better spent downloading from places like here. In any case, the official patches are hosted at MTS2, along with a lot of custom content. The only major downside for people wanting custom content is that it takes a few more clicks to get content.

Not to mention people couldn't sign in for months there due to technical problems. "Duh... Gee nobody has logged on in 2 months. Guess nobody visits anymore so pull the plug." (ignores that nobody could sign in for months and that most people couldn't upload sims to it in YEARS.) Derp.

If you are installing the game again then you will need to get the patches for it here:
http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php...elp:TS2_Patches

It is best if you install then patch each and every EP and the 1 SP you have,
install EP1 then patch EP1 then install EP2 then patch EP2 and so on.
This is the best way, but if you have install all you have then make sure you get the patches for all you have installed and install all the patches even if it says already patched.

The Tri Packs don't need to be patched.

I thought Insiminator was finished. Am I looking in the wrong place?

When I bought The Sims 2 (new!) in November, the official site was still working - just - but I couldn't register, so I couldn't download anything. When looking on Google for images of Sims 2 clothing, I often found pictures of things I liked on Insimenator, but the links never worked. (The links to MTS did work, so here I am!)

Another Sims 2 website that I like and is still working is Simphany.com (http://www.simphany.com/). It has a big range of clothing with a "cheap and cheerful" feel to it. I believe it was once a paysite, but it's free now.

Insim is still up and working, you're probably looking at links to the old site which was .net, it changed a couple of years ago to .org.

That could be, it's hard to say. Either way, it came down to a bottom line dollar decision about where the best profit was to be made.

People attribute a lot of emotion and hate/love to EA. I tend to believe that the only thing that motivates them is money.
