Default Custom eyes won't work
Basically, as the title says, custom eyes simply will not work in my game. I've tried using a few different kinds--not all at once, of course--and while they show up in CAS, when I go to select them, it instead changes to the base game default brown eyes. This has happened with literally every single eye mod I've tried, and I can't seem to fix it. For reference, I have the Sims 2 Ultimate Collection, and a slew of other custom content that works without a problem. I know how to install mods, and generally have few issues--other than occasionally downloading broken/unsupported content--so I'm sure this isn't just an error on my part.

TL;DR:
-Downloaded and installed eyes properly
-They show up in CAS, but are not selectable
-All my other CC generally works fine
-I am sad

Anyways, if anyone could help, I would greatly appreciate it. If not, that's okay too, I guess.

Thanks for your time.

EDIT: I've also consulted the Wiki, wasn't any help.

As in just non-default replacement, non-genetic eye recolors/retextures. Sorry, I should have been more clear on that.

have you tried just the eyes in your downloads folder and nothing else. so move all your other downloads out of the sims 2 folder, just have some custom eyes, use a test neighborhood and see if they work then.

Just wondering if you found an answer to this as I'm having exactly the same problem!?

Did you try what wert suggested? It sounds like there is something interfering with the eyes causing them to default to EAxis. Is the problem you are having exactly the same as the OP's?

I no longer come over to MTS very often but if you would like to ask me a question then you can find me on tumblr or my own site tflc. TFLC has an archive of all my CC downloads.
I'm here on tumblr and my site, tflc

I haven't tried what wert said yet, I'll try that tonight. I thought it might have something to do with using Windows 7 as I've recently put Sims 2 on my new computer and most of the custom content I've downloaded (clothing and objects) work if I put them in the TSDATA/RES/CATALOG/BINS folder however I have some downloads (eyes) in the DOWNLOADS folder and they seem to work. I've recently downloaded a bunch of new custom eye colours and if I put them in the DOWNLOADS folder they don't show up inh the game and if I put them in the BINS folder, they show up in CAS but if I click them they change to MAxi's defauly brown and the actual pic of the eye colour doesn't stay highlighted. I thought I had a corrupt file that might be causing this issue so I deleted a few sims I'd downloaded with custom eyes etc and it's still a problem. I've downloaded different eye colours from different sites to see but still not much luck (some work, most don't).
I moved all the eye colours i had into a folder on my desktop and tried copying them back into the game a couple at a time but it's still doing the same thing. It's so frustrating. I've played Sims for years and years and have always managed to fix whatever problems I've had but this is really frustrating me!

You should be putting all your downloads in your sims 2 "Downloads" folder, unless the creator says otherwise.
Make sure your downloads folder is spelled like this "Downloads" and not in all caps like you wrote it.

It's not windows 7, I use windows 7 and I have almost 1,000 eyes in my game an they all work perfectly fine.

Yeah I have my Downloads folder spelled "Downloads". When I reinstalled Sims2 (and Ep's) on my new PC, some of my newly downloaded custom content wasn't showing up in game so after fairly extensive research, I found some other people had the same problem and had suggested putting the downloads into the TSData/Res/Catalogs/Bins folder and that worked! The same is happening with the new eyes, if they are just in the Downloads folder, they aren't even showing up, in the other folder they show up but aren't working. I'[ll try and move all my downloads except for eyes (as wert suggested) and see if that works.

Hey. I definitely did that and have loaded the game so many times to try that restarting isn't an issue. So last night I moved ALL custom content out of my game except for eyes. I had 328 downloaded eyes and only 5 worked. The all showed up in the game but I could only click on 5 of them and so I obviously it wasn't working for whatever reason so I copied my other cc back into the game and now the 5 eyes that worked before no longer work either. I have no idea why as I then removed all cc again and left only 2 of those 5 eyes in the game and went back in with nothing but them in the game and still not working. I have no idea why. I might try and download some different ones and try those. I have wondered if it has anything to do with downloaded sims and their cc because I read somewhere that all eye colour options inc defaults were gone and that happened to me during this process and someone said it had to do with a downloaded sim with custom eyes that don't show up on the options or something. I've tried to delete the few downloaded sims I had but not sure if there are files hidden somewhere. I thought it was odd that the eyes still didn't work when there was no other custom content in the game. They show up in options but aren't clickable.

Are you on a Mac? Mac's have a hard limit to how much cc they will accept and after that things stop working.
