This user has the following games installed:

Sims 2, University, Nightlife
Default Color and behavior variations of ghosts
According to this video there are 18 ways for a Sim to die. However, when Sims die differently, they sometimes share the same color and behavior when they return as ghosts. I would like to know which types of death "produce" the same ghosts, as I'm creating a graveyard. Below this text I'll list which ghosts (that I believe) are created by more than one type of death.

Green ghost - death by illness or cow plant

White ghost - death by old age or sunlight (if vampire)

Pink ghost - death by fright, scissors or hailstorm (acts differently?)

Transparent ghost - death by starvation, Murphy Bed or Wishing well

Yellow ghost - death by electrocution, lightning or Kite

Is this correct?

That's an interesting list, Pirat ! I didn't know a sim could die from the Wishing Well !!!!!
That form of demise doesn't come up via the Tombstone/Rodney's Death Creator.
The things a person doesn't know about this game.........

Not sure if this is right, but with the Cowplant, my sims ghosts are a darker shade of green than with the illness death.
Child ghosts don't 'wander' around the lot, they appear silently and disappear--only to reappear in a different spot in the lot ---creeps me the fvck out.....

Is food poison also green? Freeze to death I think is blue, not sure about heat or flies. Any time I've had a child ghost, they acted just like the others. I have read that a child ghost is a bit wonky though.

Here is what the wiki says. http://sims.wikia.com/wiki/Ghost

Quote:
Types of ghosts in The Sims 2 Edit

Old age: Sim or pet appears white. Ghost dogs dig phantom holes.
Fire: Sim appears red. They will sometimes swim in pools or in the sea[TS2:BV]. While these ghosts are not always angry or violent, they are more likely to be unquiet.
Electrocution: Sim appears yellow and occasionally re-enacts their death.
Drowning: Sim appears blue, leaving puddles of water on the lot.
Fright: Sim appears pink.
Starvation: Sim appears transparent and occasionally opens the fridge, removing food points from it. Ghost gets angry if there is no fridge on the lot or if the fridge is empty.
Illness: Sim appears light green and occasionally re-enacts their death.
Satellite: Sim appears orange.
Flies: Sim appears purple.
Cowplant[TS2:U]: Sim appears green. If the Cowplant is still on the lot, the ghost Sim will taunt it with a slab of meat. Additionally, if another Sim drank the ghost Sim's life essence, then the ghost will be angry at that Sim.
Sunlight[TS2:NL]: Sim appears white and is still a vampire.
Rally forth[TS2:OFB]: Sim appears golden with a megaphone in his/her hand.
Hail[TS2:S]: Sim appears magenta and occasionally re-enacts their death.
Wishing Well[TS2:S]: Sim appears white.
Murphy bed[TS2:AL]: Sim appears white.
Certain types of death don't have unique ghost color. Instead, their color will be similar to Sims who die of starvation, but their behavior might differ. The ghosts include the death by sunlight, coffin scare, wishing well, and Murphy bed. Ghosts who were struck by lightning will be similar to ghosts of electrocution. The Running with Scissors Playset ghost will be similar to death by fright.

Only one not listed is kite.

Since the kite is struck by lightening they are probably a yellow electrocution ghost.

Thanks for the replies. In addition to what is written on the Wiki, I also found this useful guide regarding the subject. The question that remains is if ghosts that look alike but have different origins (lol) share the same behavior. Even the Wiki is uncertain when it come this. Do ghosts of Sims that were killed by sunlight, coffin fright, the Murphy Bed or the Wishing Well, act exactly like those that died of starvation or old age? Likewise, can anyone confirm if ghosts - that came about because of the Running With Scissors Playset or because of a lightning strike - have the same quirks as those that died of electrocution or fright?
I vaguely remember that Running-With-Scissors-ghosts and fright-ghosts are identical. I think I've read though, that Murphy-Bed-ghosts constantly interact with the object that led to their demise.

Gotta catch 'em all!

I have a few questions about ghosts, which are tangentially related to this topic. I don't think they're important enough to warrant another thread so I'll just ask them here! I've finally gotten around to the point of my Sims rotations where Sims are starting to die. Now I have a bunch of gravestones lying around my Sims lots and I like keeping them around the house because I enjoy watching the ghosts. I'll probably move them at some point, but meanwhile I have a few questions:

1. Is it normal for ghosts to get angry at finding their spouse "cheating"? My Sim's husband died and a few days after he died, she autonomously flirted with a friend when her husband's ghost was around. I heard the "cheating" sound and saw that the ghost was furious at my Sim for cheating on him! I laughed and looked up more information on this but didn't see much, so is this normal??

2. Is it safe to change a ghost's appearance through Sim Blender? I was thinking about deleting some old custom hairs that I no longer like or use, but a few of my Sims died with these hairstyles. Since I have Seasons and ghosts change clothing when walking through the door, they also change their thumbnail portrait. Removing these hairs would screw up their portrait, so I've been apprehensive about deleting them.

When PT Smith died, Jenny began dating another guy. PT never seemed to mind until she got married, re-did an upstairs bedroom while widening the kitchen for a bit more space. (not the original Smith house) The only thing he was ever angry about was his bed being sold. She had also adopted a girl that came home with their youngest boy. PT would randomly scare household members, including her, but never seemed angry at anyone, not even the new hubby. He often stood next to Jenny while she was painting, as this was his favorite thing to do before he died, as well as viewing his own paintings he created and cheering over them. His death was funny, he got sprayed by a skunk while trimming hedges, walked into the house and died a few minutes later. Murder by skunk, that's a new death type.

Have you smelled fresh skunk odor? It's strong enough to kill someone! I can see it happening Anyways that story of PT and Jenny is adorable!

Haven't smelled skunk odor in quite awhile. Used to have a de-scented pet skunk long ago. He still had a musky smell and needed weekly 'cat' baths. The Smith's are one of my favorite households.

I've never seen a skunk, I've heard they are the worst smell ever. I'm glad we don't have them.

Meh, to me skunk just smells like really, really, really strong garlic. It's not that bad, at least not to me, although if it's really fresh/close, it makes my eyes water, like onions will. Perhaps the spray is sulfurous, like onions are. The spray is an irritant, aside from smelling bad, especially if it gets in your/your pet's eyes. My dogs get sprayed often, because they're idiots, the lot of them. The cats apparently know to stay the hell away from skunks.

@mameshiba

I think there's something going on with your game. My ghosts never get jealous. They generally don't interact with the living at all except to scare them. Also, they're never selectable so there is no thumbnail portrait of them anywhere, either in the household portraits on the UI or in relationship panels. Also, you can't change their appearance because you can't make them selectable. At least, not in my game. But perhaps you have mods that I don't have.

@iCad, you should get your nose checked out -- there's clearly something wrong with your sense of smell! Skunk spray smells like something that's been dead for a day or two, with a very sharp, eye-watering top note, and a side note of that odor they put into natural gas so you can tell if you have a gas leak. (This smell is also similar to rotting bananas or nail polish remover.) If it's strong enough, it will cause nausea, although I don't know anyone who's actually vomited from it.

There was one time my father, my sister, and I were on an early morning walk (we did those sometimes when I was a kid). I would have been about 7, and my sister about 4. We were walking along, and suddenly realized that the long-haired white cat about two feet in front of us on the sidewalk was not a cat at all, but a skunk with an unusually long white stripe. The next thing I knew, we were on the opposite side of the road, with my dad holding my sister and me around the stomach, one under each arm. I swear to God there was no intervening movement -- he teleported the width of the street while holding two kids, just to be sure the skunk didn't notice us and get miffed. Although my dad dislikes garlic, I don't think he'd teleport to avoid it.

Well, my sinuses are sort of screwy, so there's that.

I dunno, it's just really never smelled that bad to me. Although, yes, now that you mention it, it does smell like that stuff they add to odorless gases so that you can tell when you have a leak. That smells like garlic to me, too, but just...stronger. I guess I'm just odd, with a ridiculously high pain threshold AND a nose that doesn't think skunk spray smells that bad. I also don't cry when I chop up onions, even really strong sulfury ones. (I'm like the perfect prep cook.) Really, I'd actually fear skunks more for the possibility of them being rabid than for their smell or the possibility of being sprayed. Although it IS a pain that my stupid dogs gets sprayed a lot because it's a real pain to get the smell out of their coats. Hey, maybe I'm just inured to the smell because at least one of the pack of dogs smells at least faintly of skunk for part of the year? But, I guess they keep the skunks away from the chickens, so I don't complain...too much.

Yikes! I have [Dolphin's Control This Sim](http://modthesims.info/d/140314) which gives me the option to control all Sims, including ghosts o_O. I can also still change their appearance through the Sim Blender, but I'm not sure if that'll break my game. I read on [this](http://www.modthesims.info/archive/...p?t-419604.html) thread that other people have experienced the jealousy thing, so maybe it's not a bug :P

Ah, well if you've got a mod, it's probably OK. I don't have that one, so my ghosts aren't selectable, just as in a vanilla game. I can't imagine that it'd be harmful to change their appearance. The ARE just Sims, after all, just with a dead token. The only harmful thing is to delete their graves, therefore deleting the Sim, which causes corruption. Changing appearance shouldn't be harmful, if you can do it.

Okay, I've done some testings and here are the results; no differences between Scissor-ghosts and fright-ghosts. Except for sharp teeth, sunlight-ghosts appeared just like old age-ghosts. Two less holes for me to dig, which is good news for my tiny graveyard.
The rumors regarding the Murphy Bed-ghosts turned out to be true. They are obsessed with the bed. It infuriates them and makes them sad. I just love all of these little details they put in the game.
Also, the second guide that I posted, claims that there's one legit and (fiery) way for toddlers to go. Now that's EVIL. Kinda creepy to have such a ghost haunt your lot.

I have had so few ghosts I can't add anything to the actual topic of the thread. However... skunks, I have opinions about. Fresh and in your immediate vicinity, they're pretty bad. But far away on the breeze? Just a bit musky. And skunks themselves are among the cutest little guys you could ever hope to see, and they never spray without fair warning. I'm glad we have them! I live in town, so only had a skunked dog once. Had two much worse experiences when the dog rolled in unmentionables (one I think was a dead thing because it smelled far worse than the demonstrably fecal other one and didn't wash off for literal weeks, and I did try everything except for exorcism).

Turns out ICad's right about the components of skunk spray!

HAH! Vindication, I has it!

And yes, aside from the smellly thing, skunks are totally adorable and I'm guessing they're probably pretty smart because their weasel-y, badger-y kin are. I'd love to have a pet one, but I think it's illegal here in the States. *cough* Notthatthat'sstoppedmebefore. *cough*

Skunked dogs aren't too awful to deal with. Baking soda, peroxide, good to go. I just have to buy peroxide by the barrel during the summer, is all, because my property, between the chickens and the beehives, is like Skunk Heaven. And I end up with oddly-colored dogs, thanks to the peroxide, but it's their own damn fault. I agree that when they roll around in manure and dead things, it's far, far worse. Dogs!
