Hi Sims 3 people, I'm hoping you can help my daughter- or me so I can help her.

It's been a very long time since I played Sims 3 or installed any content. She wanted Master Controller so she could have more pets.

I went over to the Nraas page http://nraas.wikispaces.com/MasterController and downloaded the first link 'base Mod'
I made inside her Documents/Electronic Arts/Sims 3 folder a 'Mods' and inside that a 'Packages' folder. I dropped the mod into there then thought I needed something else, a Resourse file so I grabbed that and placed that inside with the Master Controller file.
Now her game wont run. What am I doing wrong? I don't have Sims 3 installed on my computer any longer to check, this is on her laptop. I've told her to update her game, but really with Sims 3 I don't have much idea what I am doing.

Presuming you are using the right "Resource.cfg", put it in the "Mods" folder, not "Packages".

EDIT: oh, and make sure you downloaded the right version of NRaas MC for your patch level.

Thankyou for the quick reply. Well she updated her game, does that contain the patch? Or should she go someplace else for the patches? She has Base game and Pets.

I used the instructions on the Nrass page which I thought said drop the resource into Packages. I'll move it. There is more than 1 resource? It was the one they had linked there. I also had her delete those cache files it mentions on the Nrass page. Her game doesn't seem to notice it's there at all.

Edit: Moved the resource file into Mods and now it's crashing.
Seems to be more updates are needed so I am having her put all of them on.

Spend a little time reading the page I linked, trust me, that will answer
all your questions and I bet it's the quickest way to make it work anyway ^^

I didn't find that really addressed what I was after Arsil, but thanks for the link.

It needed 3 patches which took all evening, but after that the mod worked so that was all that was wrong.
The Basic Master Controller mod is now showing up, but that didn't allow her to add the extra horses to the household which is what she wants. Does anyone know what I need to download so she can add extra horses to her household, or is it shapes a cheat? All I know is she saw a Youtube video which told her she needed that mod. perhaps it's a flavour pack/ add on?

Sorry Arsil, I find Sims 3 mods really confusing. Which one does she need there? She just wants to make more horses in CAS.
MasterController Integration says human sims, the others don't mention animals. Or is she doing it wrong? Does she need to make them seperatly and then move them in from hood view?

With just Master Controller you can add extra members to the household (even pets), just click on
the lot, select NRaas, Master Controller and "Add a Sim" or "Add a Pet". Of course this way you can
only add existing Sims/Pets.
EDIT: but you can edit them later (clicking on them and selecting NRaas+MasterController+Advanced+ModifyInCAS or something like that)

The following is just speculation, I hope someone else will help you more.

if you want to create with CAS a family with more than 8 Sims/Pets, I think you need Integration.
Be careful to choose the right one for the version of the main Master Controller mod, if your game is fully
patched (version 1.67) it should be the top one in the list.
EDIT: but I doubt this will work when you start a new game...

You probably need Portrait Panel to display more than 8 Sims/Pets in the interface
(so it's easier to select them clicking on their portrait).

Thank you, all I knew about MC was to click on the town hall, and I didn't understand what that list was. I'll take a look tomorrow, it's gone 11.30 pm over here which is way too late for me to think.

If you want to Create A Household with 6 Human Sims and 6 Pets from the bat, MC is able to do it (requires Integration module), though to sustain such large household you will require some more mods that are listed in the link Arsil posted. Also you are able to Adopt Pets with MC, that will instantly be dropped on your front lawn. EA's adoption system seems to be broken of some patches ago, where the Social Workers forgets to deliver a pet on your door step and errors out and therefor looses the pet you wanted to adopt.

Register only manage the Strays, of course you are able to adopt such as well after you befriend them. MC though give a variety of choices you can pick from.

Just to add to stevset's advice, If you've allowed strays in your game MC can also be used to adopt stray cats and dogs that are on your lot.

When she clicks on the lot it shows how many people are in the lot, the lot name and some other details but no Nras. As a Sims 2 player I am finding this very confusing. Should she have the lot loaded, be in hood view? I need baby steps here so I can tell her what to do.

So I should go get her MasterController Integration even though it only mentions humans.

Also she found a video which said she needs something called 'Portrait panel'

Does she have any NRaas mods installed? What NRaas mods is she expecting to see when clicking on a lot? Not knowing what she wants to do makes it difficult to suggest appropriate mods.
Master Controller main function is to provide functionality to manage the towns population and various interactions. If she wants to use the Integration module Master Controller will need to be installed.
I'm not certain why she thinks she needs Portrait Panel for a video.

If it is just NRaas mods you both are looking into I really suggest stopping by the NRaas Site . You can browse over there without being a member but to post you'll need to join. Instructions are in the link for the site. Very easy to do and the members there are experienced with the NRaas Suite of mods.

Above they seemed to be saying just click on the lot, but nothing happens when she clicks on the lot. Just a pop up giving the lot details. We tried that in Edit town.

When she clicks on the ground as Arsil suggested she should be seeing a button named NRaas. If that is not there check to make sure the mod was installed correctly. I believe you mentioned above you dropped the Resource.cfg in the packages folder. Are you sure the mods folder framework is correctly set up? In the Mods folder there are 2 folders, - Overrides and Packages ..The resource.cfg file should be loose in the Mods folder. There is a Download available that will create the Mods folder here: Installing Set up and Files. You might want to copy and paste the old Mods folder to her desktop and try adding the new Mods Folder in. There are illustrations how it should look on the page I linked to. Then redownload Master Controller making sure it goes in the Packages folder under Mods.

Re the video on utube -- Portrait Panel has nothing to do with being able to add horses to the game. There is a blurb at the [[http://nraas.wikispaces.com/PortraitPanel|Top of This Page]] that might help you understand what the mod does.

I'd also like to suggest and hopefully to save you both frustration: Googling for information on the NRaas suite is not recommended: Often the information is incorrect and/or the mods have been updated or the instruction is only relevant to an individual's game.
Your best bet for help with any Mods or Custom Content is to go to where you got the Mod or CC and post there for help.

Okay, I had a look at the video and it wasn't what she wanted after all, that was just adopt a pet, she wants to make horses in CAS and add them to her households from Edit town.

She did try the adopt function though. We went in and clicked on a horse and under the Nras list it had basic then adopt but when she clicked adopt she says that didn't work either.

I only made a Mods>Packages folder. So I also need a folder called "Overrides"? So Mods>Overrides? Or Mods>packages>Overrides? What do I put into Overrides?

Yes I have the resource file loose inside the Mods folder.

Now she has base Mod and Integration inside the Mods folder.

When she goes to Edit town and tries to place more horses on the lot it says "There are too many sims in this household".

You have several things going on here and I will try to answer as best I can:
Has she tried adding the horses she made in CAS from the bin? Is she all set with how to do that?
Re the framework and the mods folder you made: When clicking on the ground does she now see the NRaas button? If not did you try what I suggested and use the download for the Mod framework to make sure everything is set up correctly? The overrides folder is generally for priority handling. I don't think you need to worry about that at this point. Some people have their mods folders more structured and use the overrides folder. I don't use that folder at all and have been playing S3 since it was released
If she wants more than 8 sims in a household she will need to follow the instructions in Play A Household with More Than 8 Sims

If she wants to Add sims or animals already in the game to the household:
For Strays or Wild Horses (also considered sims) or to add a human Sim already in the game:
Click on the Stray or Horse or Sim> then NRaas>Master Controller>Intermediate>Add Sim
To Adopt an Animal
Or Click on a Sim>NRaas>Master Controller>Basic>Adopt Pet> A window comes up with options to adopt a Cat Dog or Horse

She has gone to Edit Town and tried to add in extra horses from the bin, that is when the game says there are too many sims on the lot.

Yes, she sees Nraas when she clicks on the ground.

She has Mods>Packages. I placed base mod and Integrator into the Packages folder with resource loose inside of the Mod folder. That is all she has.

When she clicks on NRaas>Master Controller>Basic>Adopt Pet, nothing happens. I checked up on her and she had the game paused. She has dyslexia so she took no notice of the pop up that said she couldn't do that action with the game paused, which is also why I am doing this for her. So yes, with the game live it did give her the option to adopt, but she doesn't want to do that, she wants to add in horses she made in CAS. Could she put the horses she made up for adoption?

I'll go read the link you pasted on more than 8 sims, see what I can glean from that. Thank you all for your patience, this all rather feels like rocket science!

Edit: She did it! I added in Mover and that allowed her to merge the horses in the bin into her other lot. Thank you all so much.

Aww..thats great joandsarah77 .. I should have mentioned not to have the game paused...sorry about that. And don't worry ... the NRaas Suite of mods can be rather daunting. It's best to just use a few at a time to get used to the functions.
There are some Gameplay Tips Here for the mods. Again, your best bet if you need further help is to post at the site you download from. I see so many simmers getting all tangled up trying to Google for help

That's okay, I know if you are used to playing something it's easy to forget little things like that. It's far more complicated than Sims 2 modding, we just toss a mod into the Download folder and off we go. I did do quite a bit of Googling and tangling lol. She is a happy camper now so thank you very much.
