Default A Sim wanted to give me the Therapist's number!
I was playing normally, and a Sim came up to me (Marie Rauscher) and asked me if I wanted the phone number for "Therapist". I said no, since I read a while back he is not per se a Sim, but an object that is programmed to perform specific actions. How could this happen? It is very, very interesting. And, what would have happened if I clicked yes? Would the game turn into a bunch of garbage?

Yikes would be my reaction. Is your objects.packages read only? I would check the date on them. Most definitely say no. Unless you have made a sim and called him Therapist that would be a VBT.

I checked the date on both the base game's objects.package and the one in Mansion and Garden stuff. They are dated 2005 and 2008, respectively. And nope, I don't have any Sims named Therapist. I checked the Sims Wiki, and saw that someone reported that he appeared as a walk-by. That really intrigues me!

Yeah, don't take his phone number.

I've had something similar happen - not with the therapist, but with another non-playable who shouldn't have been handing out their number to anybody. I just said no and put it down to being a badly coded glitch.

I've had it happening several times, always refused. Once my Sim was offered a phone number of Zombie Hula, or what are they named, one of the ladies that accompany Grim Reaper.

Thanks for the heads up, everybody. My assumption is these NPC's, during development, were indeed normal Sims at some point, and when Maxis turned Therapist and the others into what they are, data was accidentally left in there to where the game will recognize them as a playable Sim. And my game did yet another weird thing a few hours ago; My Sim started using the jump rope, and he got a body point every second, until it was maxed out.

I had the NPC-Robot, and luckily by that time I had figured that in my localised version of the game (not in English), you have to answer "Yes" if you don't want them to call you.
I guess the translator went literally with "Do you mind" and you have to say that yes, you do mind. Problem is, the translation is something like "do you allow me to give Zeeshan your number", so it took me a long time to figure out why the Zeeshans harassed my sims even though I always declined the offer.

I hate when this kind of thing happens! One time in a previous neighborhood my sim kept bringing a ninja home from work. I even closed without saving and it happened again. The ninja was in my sim's relationship panel, which I was really worried about. I didn't notice any negative effects after that whole thing, but I also stopped playing the neighborhood shortly after. I know corruption can take a while to show itself.

That happens when they have learned the Physiology skill from the bookcase, a feature that came with either Apartment Life or Freetime. It wasn´t intended to be THAT powerful, but it´s none of the VBT.

That explains it perfectly, Enki, since my Sim had studied the Physiology skill prior to using it. Thanks for the clarification!

If it wasn't a VBT, that would be super cool. Can you imagine just randomly bringing a ninja home from work?

My Sim met Ninja while out on a walk, and out of curiosity I later invited him to a wedding. Does that mean I've ruined my game? He showed up on the lot but couldn't be interacted with, just kept appearing and disappearing. He remained after the party and I eventually deleted him.

When Consort Capp died of old age, he tried to give his money to Toddler New Year. I only had 1 new year party ever, and it was about 20 back-ups ago. The only solution I could think of was kill Consort by fire so he didn't give any money to anyone, but now I'm worried everyone who went to the party will have to be killed off instead of dying by old age......... I'm sure I can work that into some Creepy storyline.

I once had the tour guide call my Sim. And my daughter had the witch doctor walk by a lot in her game. Both of us know we didn't do any of the VBTs on the list, and that all our files were read-only.

Upon the suggestion of better-versed people on this board, I used Sim PE to remove the tour guide relationship.(My daughter just let the dude walk by without anyone interacting with him.) In the future, whenever my Sim talks to the tour guide for the first time (it's always just the first time), I fix the relationship so the tour guide doesn't get lonely again and decides to chat.

When both of us play a lot, we take special note of who visits, and if we see anyone we don't want, we use the Visitor Controller to ban the pixel pest. I have a couple of frisky mods in my game, and while I keep them inactive most of the time, every once in a while, I forget. The last thing I need is for the Charlatan to do something nasty with a dorm student. No. Just ... no.

To the OP ... I wouldn't click "yes". But that's just me.

Thanks to ALL free-site creators, admins and mods.

One time a relationship between a nonexistent sim and Rod Humble was shown in Hoodchecker. My objects.package files were ok, but it lit a fire under my butt to make them read only (I though I did at that time but I hadn't.) And I don't have that 'hood anymore anyway.

Another time, I invited my sim's friend over. He asked if he could bring a friend. I said yes. He brought a carpool driver. She wouldn't go away or even be clicked on so I had to exit without saving. That's why I don't let invited sim's bring extra guests: too dangerous.

I have a mod that takes that away totally. No one ever brings a guest over. They don't even ask anymore.

Ya know, I always used to think these things were just hilarious mishaps, but apparently they can break your game!

@VoodooMystic The first thing to ask if your are using the Strangetown that came with the game or are you using the clean and fixed ones from "Oh My God It's Full Of Sims!" http://meetme2theriver.livejournal.com/

And to saying yes or no you need to chose "yes" that you do mind if she gave away your number, the "no" allows her to give your number away. (Or at least this is how it is in my game.)

I can't remember if I used the clean templates at the time of this happening, but yes. I recall downloading the neighborhoods, but I can't remember if I installed them before, or after this incident. Either way, I wiped my old "EA Games" folder from my documents and it generated a new one.

Yeah Those clean ones are better. I discovered that when I made my megahood with them
