Default Has anyone else noticed sims randomly gaining weight?
I know there was some discussion on sims gaining too much weight too easily before, but recently I have noticed a new side to this problem. Somehow, for some unknown reason, sims that I don't play with much appear to have gained a lot of weight. It doesn't happen to the sims I've never played with, but to the households that I've played with like once or twice. I don't mind it if the sims I play with gain weight through pregnancy etc., it's quite realistic, but it's annoying that sims I've just put into the neighbourhood are suddenly turning up a lot bigger on community lots than what they were originally.

Has anyone else had this same problem? Does anyone know of any mods that could help with this issue?

I've had this problem since the beginning and got so annoyed with it that I installed a mod that stops weight & muscle gain entirely.

I got this, and I think the culprit is the public cooking. Sometime I would play another household to find some of my other sims stuffing themselves with burgers and what not at community lots/public area with the grill.

That explains a lot. They gain weight a little too easily.

Did they not fix this before? Didn't the base game cause any sim that was at anytime turned playable to gain weight while not being played? I thought it was one of the earlier-mid patch fixes? Whatever though, I have seen this in the last few days of playing (I hadn't played for some time before both Halloween patches, and just this week I came back to it) with some of my unplayed sims suddenly looking heavier than when I last played. I was thinking they mustn't have been my sims but the names were matching?

Maybe the new patch has broken the fix? Maybe it is part of the new patch making the legendary Halloween/Thanksgiving/Christmas in the U.S. seasonal weight gain an in-game thing... Too much realism EA!!! I'm going to have to go into full edit mode to fix some of these sims back up.

I don't think it was every a bug, sims both played or not gain weight if they don't workout/over eat the same applies to sims that do work out they will lose weight or gain muscle depending on the what type of exercise they do. The only patches I know of that was to fix muscle/weight gain was the one that fix the bug where sims who had been using the weight machine were not showing muscle definition in game and the one where sims would gain muscle when doing yoga.

I have seen it where some sims repeatedly go at food more so than other sims. I would put this repeat over-eating down to a trait push and/or an environment push that effects some sims more than others. The ones that tuck in every chance they get, going back for seconds and thirds like human vacuum cleaners, do not have the Glutton Trait nor Foodie Trait, nope, nothing so obvious. But it's not a glitch either because they do it repeatedly, on different game sessions, the same handful of over-eaters can reduce a spread of eight or nine group meals to a bunch of empty plates in no time.

During Party Scenarios there is a push for all sims to eat far above the normal, regardless of Hunger motive. But some sims must think life is one big, continuous party and stuffing their faces is actually more to do with fun than it is to do with hunger. With the Maxis addiction to Party Stuff, one can see how and why some sims become afflicted with this. But seriously, it's a push some sims get, either a main trait or a buyable one, like High Metabolism maybe. It's got to be something like that.

Maybe even a skill related thing, because my main sims in three different houses are all highly skilled in the cuisine arts yet they don't stuff their faces. The handful that do have little-to-zero cooking skills as I don't play them that often in comparison. They're just there to be the friends and play-things of my main sims, and perhaps the depression of realising this, coupled with the low, low skills, has driven them to over-eating and binge-eating every chance they get.

They need more hugs, I guess. It's obvious to me now.

I can't seem to get sims to eat till the party is well underway (nearing the end) they are spending most of their time talking and dancing.

I have mainly noticed this in CAS. They look super in-shape then reality sets in when I'm done planning their outfits. A metaphor for real life maybe?

There does always seem to be food lying around public spaces so maybe it's this plus parties and the weird pull to eat food that coolspear1 mentioned all together adding up and making some of the sims fat. For me it's also the ones who are just there to be friends for my main sims lol maybe they do need a hug...

But yeah it doesn't seem to be a glitch. However, there's certainly an issue with the way sims gain weight far too easily and the weight gain from not exercising etc shouldn't be affecting sims who are not actively played as much and I do hope that EA might adjust this at some point...

Maybe if I visited the gym lots more often more of the filler sims would exercise instead of just stuffing themselves with food.

Really? I know there was a thread that touched on the subject that made me think, "Yes, I have noticed my unplayed sims getting downright obese." This included my sporty sims and watching them gain weight as they jogged past the household I was currently playing was a little annoying.

Then suddenly patch and my fat sims jogging by were back to what they were when I left them. Now they are fattening up again. :/

It's a cycle, and where your sims all ended up becoming obese mine all started becoming bodybuilders, at least the adults did. All the kids become little butterballs

We noticed it on a stream as well, the streamer had twin sims and one of them had suddenly gained weight, it was very puzzling :D

Hmmmm. Thanks for the update one that. All I know was that after they fixed the weight gain, my fit sims went back to what there were (never had any get extra fit though?) and then stopping play just before the first Halloween update and coming back after the last Halloween update, weight gain again?

Kids (and teens), no visible change seen, only young adults and up. Am I the only one that this is happening to as well, I thought it was quite an obvious observation as from the start, children and teens never changed?

I like the weigh/muscle gain/lose. I just don't like it when I have to send my sim to the gym and/or build their fitness skill so they can maintain their weight. I don't want all my sims to be athletic. I also don't like it when a sim I made this to be a townie no longer looks like how I made them because they got fat or look like tthey've been hitting the gym to often.

That's why I now use the no muscle/fat gain/lose mod.

You know it does sound like I hate it but I don't I'm just to controlling to leave the game be.

Default Me, too
I've always had this vague feeling that my Sims were carrying on with their lives when I wasn't even playing....just weird.... now I know that when I'm playing one Sim, the rest of them are out there partying in the public areas and stuffing themselves with burgers!!
I figured that out when I ran my Sim out to collect and also cleanup the public areas....plate after plate of food....in fact it crossed my mind that if there are budgetary problems with a poor Sim, he could easily eat his meals free of charge in the public areas! That was a eureka! moment lol Nevertheless, I, too, now use the no-muscle-no-fat -gain mod. Geez.....a few pudgy Sims fit a typical neighborhood but all of them looking like I should find a Weight Watchers mod was just too much.

Been there, done that. Had some hard up sims not able to afford food so they went to the park for leftovers several times! One femsim even took her new boyfriend on a date to the park so they could eat together for free! He didn't seem to twig and the date went great.

Hee hee...I take advantage of all the free food at the park with Sims who are just starting out and low on both skill and funds. It also works great for homeless Sims, too.
