Default Different Gender Twins?
Hey; I read that NRaaS disables the watermelon-apple system of pregnancy. I know without NRaaS you could get a Dr to identify the gender, then quickly eat a bunch of the opposite fruit to get mixed-gender babies, but does that still work?

In my game 6 of 7 pairs of twins have been born the same gender. (The odd one I'm not even sure if they were twins.) I'd like to have some mixed-gender twins. Is there a way to do it through normal gameplay, without cheating using the NRaaS controller?

Story Progression disables that.
Depending on the options you have set in Story Progression it will override the EA Standard methods of handling gender. In other words the apple and watermelon system will not work as a means to alter gender.
Check to make sure this setting is at False:
From City Hall or a computer>NRaas>Story Progression>Options Pregnancy>Newborn Gender>
You should be able to use the EA method with that setting at False.
There is also a setting in there for One Of Each Gender>Default is False

I'm really not sure though if or how the apple/watermelon method would work for twins without adjusting other settings. I would think the gender of the second child will be random.

I'm sure you'll get some feedback from others in here who have managed this without cheats.

The SP setting for Newborn Gender isn't exactly true/false. If it's set to Random, then the fruit trick will work again for the first child to be born from that pregnancy. If it's set to Balanced (default) or any of the others, the fruit has no effect other than giving the expectant sim a healthy dose of Vitamin C.

But none of these settings involve the gender of the second (third, fourth) baby in a multiple birth, nor does the fruit with or without doctors and mods. Those are always random. I think they might even be random if you have identical twins (trips, etc.), which of course here on Planet Earth is impossible but Sim Biology is...strange to us and different. That you are getting 6 sets of same gender twins in a row, or close to that, would be equivalent to tossing a coin and getting heads six times in a row--unlikely but not impossible. The other possibility is that some sort of unexpected parental cloning is taking place at birth.

I just had an inactive give birth to triplets in my game (gender set to Random). Not sure I've ever seen more than twins on inactives before. No fruit, no player involvement, doctors, or fertility tricks that were player directed, I never really paid this couple much attention before. They had two girls and a boy. And an annoyed player who had to figure out how to shoehorn two more cribs than expected into their apartment for them so they wouldn't fail Household Inspections and try to move to a bigger house that they wouldn't be able to afford.

It used to be that the first twin would be the same gender as the second. If you got a doctor to determine the gender before birth, and then ate 6 of the proper fruit for the opposite gender, you would get one of each. If you had triplets the third one would be random.

But I think they patched that. (Long after patching the issue where having apple pancakes counted as eating apples, though. )
