Default What's Don's story?
So when I play The Sims 2, I always have Don knock up Cassandra and then leave her at the altar (commitment issues). Afterwards, I let him continue his Lothario ways. I think this plays well with the idea of him being teleported by a group of girls to Riverview (as per Sims 3 canon). However, that's where my question lies.. how long do you think it is before he is teleported? A little after Cassandra finds out she's pregnant? Or a few years later, because Cassandra had to develop the technology? Or did Cassandra even have anything to do with that? Who are the girls? In my mind, I'm thinking because Cassandra is a Field Researcher, she came across a top-secret government project that dealt with time travel and convinced Mary-Sue Pleasant to use her political clout to get Don to be a "test subject" in the project. The several laughs came from Cassandra, Mary-Sue (who was treating this as a resolve to her frustrations with men after catching her husband cheating), and a scientist in charge of the project who herself had a history with Don. -- My reasoning for not including Dina and Nina is because I think they're well aware of Don's Casanova ways, and Cassandra likely isn't a huge fan of either of them - especially with Dina trying to get in with her heartbroken father. Cassandra doesn't like Kalynn for the same reason that Mary-Sue obviously doesn't, so they wouldn't be having any contact with her.

Another hypothesis is that he does leave Cassandra at the alter, which infuriates the Caliente sisters because the three of them had been working together to coup the Goth fortunes by making Bella disappear (Don charming Bella to come over to see something he is seeing in the telescope and the Caliente sisters using their Alien family to take her) and then infiltrating the family through marriage while they're down. The only plot hole I have is that I imagine that signing a prenup would be customary in a family like the Goths which would likely stipulate that some sort of charity of would receive all their fortunes if there is no living Goth heir. -- Which draws me back to my initial theory in that I think Cassandra is oddly drawn to Don because of the mystery that surrounds him and her mother, and she subconsciously is grateful that her mother is no longer around because she was tired of living in her mother's shadow. Don is interested in Cassandra simply because she's different. Dina is simply drawn to Mortimer and Michael's generation of old wealth (as opposed to new wealth; not referring to the age of the individuals).

The next question is: how does Don react to being sent to the past? Does he just continue his life like he did before? Or does he go crazy and try to get back to his present? That is, if you even use TS3 as canon.

I might one day finish my Zanes Hollow project, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Until then, you can see what I'm up to on my Simblr!

In Sims 3, he gets teleported or something. I don't know, I read the first few paragraphs on the Wikia and gave up. Considering how much they muck around with the continuity I don't consider TS3 canon.

I don't know what all this teleportation stuff is about - is this a Sims 3 thing? In my game, Don shacked up with Nina after Cassie's untimely demise, tried (and failed) to keep it in his pants, and fathered a bunch of mini-Dons all over Pleasantview. Nobody teleported anywhere.

In the Sims 3 world "Riverview", Don Lothario is teleported into town. From the Sims Wiki:

Don appears in Riverview. The family bio reads "Don woke up one morning in a whole new world. He remembers stepping onto a teleporter, several women laughing, then nothing else until he found himself here..." "Here" refers to an old granary, abandoned for years and waiting for nature to demolish it, that is, until Don showed up. Don's bio reads "Don Lothario was facing a big choice between marriage and continuing to be a man about town. Will his "accidental" teleportation to a new town change his old ways?"

That just raises so many questions. Why was he stepping onto a teleporter? Are teleporters common in the world of the Sims? Why don't they ever appear in TS2, which takes place after TS3? Why is he so pale? Did living in a granary give him a tan?

Ah, forget it. It was aliens. That's simple enough.

Here's one explanation of how Don ended up in Riverview:

Personally, I think Cassandra might have had something to do with it. She's a scientist and probably picked up a few physics tips from her daddy.

about the teleporters; one possibly might be some disaster destroyed them (along with other missing content).

The teleporter from the sims 1 was one of my favorites to put in houses, so convenient for them to just have one slot and it is so cool with a teleporter. Good memories, thank you for that

@RoxEllen1965 Thanks for that video that was a very interest concept of Don why he ended up in Riverview. In my game Don ( who is my favorite Sims ) is still in Pleasantview married with two children and living Wealth.
I change Don to a "Family Sims" many years ago, his player days are long gone. I made a beautiful female Sims ( Rosa ) in Body shop for him ,because his wild ways was well known in Pleasantview.

The only Sims 2 machinima I remember is a full-length version (like 3 hours) of Titanic. It was ambitious, but marred by several flaws, such as the male lead thinking about kissing when he was supposed to be freezing to death in the icy waters.

Um, let's get back on topic now.

I don't know if that's so bad. If you're going to die, it might be best if your last conscious thoughts are of something happy, and the there can be few happier thoughts than of kissing someone you love. It's actually the kind of detail I like.

I'm not going to recommend it, but, from what I've heard, hypothermia is one of the easier ways to die. As your body temperature drops, you cease to feel the cold, and you drop into a deep sleep from which, unless someone intervenes, you never awake. It certainly beats gasping for breath in drowning or asphyxiation, or the searing pain of death by fire.

I'll post something on-topic when I think of something to say about Don.

following paragraph might shed some light on the continuity issue; from the linked wikia page.
Quote:
Don was the only character for whom the events of The Sims 3 apparently follow on from those depicted in The Sims 2 (that was, until the Caliente sisters returned via Barnacle Bay). For all the other returning characters, the game acts as a prequel rather than a sequel to the previous titles. Therefore, Don's chronology within the series is unique. As in The Sims 2, Don has the personality of a Casanova and he has the lifetime wish to become a heart breaker.

Sorry. I was very tired and almost delirious when I wrote this thread. It made complete sense to me at the time, haha. I added references to the original post to better explain what I was talking about. I think my biggest thing was that I was essentially writing for TS3 players, but because I haven't had any reason to believe TS3 players care about pre-mades in the slightest, I figured I would have better luck discussing it with TS2 players.

To give some background, I am playing TS3 right now, cycling each household as I would in TS2 to, ideally, eventually match myself up to the TS2 timeline and I can't figure out what I want to do with Riverview Don. His traits say that he would just continue on as he had been, but I feel like any critically thinking being would kind of go crazy having been sent to the "past" with no money, no jobs, and no friends.

My personal take is to use TS3 canon with a grain of salt. I know there are some TS2 Sims in TS3 that I simply don't acknowledge as canon - the families of Veronaville, for one (I'm trying to decide if I want to rename those Sims or pretend they are uncanny dopelgangers). However, I think the majority of the Sims and such can be used. Unlike the TS4 versions, which is a travesty. They're just monetizing (wording?) on the names at this point.

I feel like he was being forced, or had been conned into stepping onto the teleporter (maybe they said he would make his you-know-what bigger, or maybe it would make him younger looking, etc).

I don't have an answer on their commonality, but as to why they don't appear in TS2 is a valid question. Maybe by the time TS2 has rolled around, they're illegal? So maybe Cassandra didn't invent them at all! Generally, though, I just ignore the differences in technology. One can only expect so much from games set to be contemporary to when they were made.

To me, he looks more pale in the Sims 3 than he does in the Sims 2. So in my mind, he just couldn't afford spray tans in his new state in TS3.

Wow, I can tell whoever made that machinima has a lot of skills. Very well made. If only they had some of the great mods that exist now at the time (like clouds for the sky). Very clever reasoning. My only problem is that they knew each other all while growing up, apparently (Don and the Caliente sisters). Dina and Nina live with each other, so I would imagine they would tell eachother everything - especially, in relation to Don.
