This is it, the final chapter of B2L. So sad, right?

Kat’s POV
For the first time since my divorce I could finally breathe easy. Emilio’s visit, which I had been dreading, had actually turned out to provide closure for the most depressing chapter of my life. I had the answers I needed – what Emilio was up to nowdays, what happened to the man who wrecked our marriage, and that the father of my children would be there for them if he was ever needed.
It felt like a weight had been lifted from my shoulders and I was able to delve into planning my wedding to Sean.
We had a short engagement - by this point we were so ready to start our life together that the whens and wheres of a big wedding were unappealing. I couldn’t wait to marry Sean, and he couldn’t wait to marry me.
Sophia and Pete had graciously offered to host a quiet ceremony in their back yard. They’d even gone so far as to have a lovely white gazebo constructed for the big day.
The day of our wedding was sunny and bright. After a few last minute adjustments to my hair and dress, Kelli and Sophia hurried off to their seats as I remained hidden behind a wall of bushes. I heard the bridal march start to play that was my cue to enter the garden. As I stepped into view of the guests seated on the lawn and walked up the steps into the gazebo with my family, I never once felt any flutter of nervousness; I knew that my future with Sean was secure.
I slowly made my way to stand beside Sean under the wedding arch, never taking my eyes from his. He looked so handsome.
When it was time for the vows, my heart joyfully skipped a beat when Sean started speaking.
“Kat, my love for you has burned for a long time. You are my best friend; because of you, I laugh, I smile, I dare to dream again. I look forward with great joy to spending the rest of my life with you, caring for you, nurturing you, being there for you in all life has for us, and I vow to be true and faithful for as long as we both shall live.”
He gingerly slipped his golden ring onto my finger, the sign that I now belonged to him. It was a perfect fit, just like we were.
“Sean, somehow I have found my way back to you, and back to our love. I take you to be my husband from this time onward, to join with you and to share all that is to come, to be your faithful wife, to give and to receive, to speak and to listen; a commitment made in love, kept in faith, and eternally made new.”
As I returned the act of giving Sean my wedding band, I heard some of our friends begin to clap and cheerfully whisper.
Sean pulled me to him passionately and sealed the deal. It was done. We were bound to each other in love, never to part again.
The small reception that followed was lovely. Sophia had done a wonderful job of putting together a beautiful location for us, but honestly, I didn’t take much of it in. The only thing important to me that day was the man standing next to me.
The night finally ended and we bid our guests goodbye and headed to the airport. We’d be spending a week in Bermuda. That night I was finally able to play out the ‘naughty nurse’ fantasy I’d had since college. It was something I’d thought up when Sean and I had chosen our medical career paths. It was a night to remember…
~~~Three Months Later…~~~
Sean is everything I could ever want in a husband. Those early days of our marriage were wonderful, I’d waited so long to be with him and nothing could break through the fog of bliss that surrounded me then.
We’d settled into a comfortable life in Sean’s small home. There was plenty of room for the four of us. Sean was working full time again and I had applied to be an on call nurse for day shifts at the hospital. In a few months I would have the oppourtunity to become a regular staff member.
One sunny afternoon, Sean and I sat out back on the wooden bench Emilio had crafted for us as a wedding gift. Sean hated the thing, but he couldn’t deny it was comfortable, and he didn’t want to hurt my feelings by throwing it out. At least Emilio was trying.
We were discussing our recent trip to New York to visit Emilio. All of us had gone, we’d wanted to meet Natasha and see where the twins would be staying for a few weeks next summer if they chose to. It was a successful trip, and even Gabby had warmed to Emilio after he presented her with a chestnut brown mare that she’d promptly named Macy. It seemed like this visitation thing would work out after all.
“Do you ever wish you could have more?” Sean asked suddenly.
“More kids?” I questioned, my eyebrows knitting together.
He nodded.
“Of course I do,” I said, turning slightly to look at him. “Sean, what if it was possible for us to get pregnant? I know you want to be a father more than anything, but would you really want to have three kids so fast? It’s a lot of work.”
“And I’d enjoy every moment of it, but that can’t happen.”
“Well… maybe it already has.” I peered up at him through my lashes.
He looked like he’d been struck by lightning. “What? Are you serious?”
“Would I lie about this?”
“How... how is this possible?”
“I don’t know Sean, maybe you and I are just a good fit. Your fertility has probably increased in the past few years since you quit drinking. Have you been tested since then?”
He shook his head. “I’ve never given much thought to trying to overcome my infertility. I knew that I’d be happy just being step-dad to the twins, but this is beyond anything I’d thought possible. We’re going to have a baby!”
He pulled me into his strong embrace and we sat like that for a long time.
I can’t believe how lucky I am. Life is unpredictable, and full of opportunities that can change us forever. Some people make the right decisions on their first try, while others take the longer route. But I know that life always leads us right back to where we belong. Somehow, despite all of the mistakes I made early on, I’ve found my way back to happiness.
Back to Sean.
Back to love…
