Those bathrooms where a toilet is in a separate room - I'm pretty sure they are called 'water closets' and they are a popular thing in newer houses in the US (at least midwest). I have a few houses with this feature in sims and it works well for bathroom sharing, and even helps make big bathrooms not seem so empty, but the only downside is someone is stuck in the water closet if another sim is using the shower in the main part of the bathroom, which takes longer to accomplish than going to the bathroom.

Uh oh! My social bar is low - that's why I posted today.

The separate rooms don't have to be accessed through each other. You can set them up with doors straight out into a hall, or into a vanity room with mirrors, sinks, and linen closets.

What looks right to you will of course depend a lot on what you're used to. Americans do most of their grooming in the bathroom, which makes occupancy longer, and we do love our indoor plumbing! The half-bath off the public areas is extremely common, and extremely handy, especially in a multi-story house, since (as the judges remind us!) it's nice to have the full bath close to the bedrooms, which are typically on the upper floor.

The friend who usually acts as host to our gaming group is a single man living in a two-bedroom house, with the second bedroom used as an occasional guest room but primarily for storage. The bedroom he uses has a walk-in closet and a bathroom with a huge handicapped-accessible shower (since he has mobility problems) and there's a second full bath next to the guest bedroom, adjacent to the living room, so we don't have to trek through his bedroom when we're visiting, and overnight guests can have a bath or a shower as it suits them. It sounds excessive on the face of it - two full baths for one person! - but it suits his needs and he could afford it, so he did it. My aunt and uncle, who built a new house on their farm in the late 50s/early 60s, have one full bath on the ground floor, and the basement has two shower stalls and a water closet, an arrangement I never asked them about because I was small enough to take it for granted. It's possible they were installed for the use of temporary farm help, but at the time we used to visit them the basement was primarily a play area for the cousins and the space adjacent to the plumbing was set up like a secondary living room, with the furniture from the old farmhouse parlor if my hazy memory can be trusted.

Perhaps this is why I have no problem giving sims ridiculous numbers of bathrooms. Normally, if the house will have lots of toddlers in it, I have the nursery downstairs near a full bath with a shower tub and no tubs on the upper floors, because if you do, the sims will be trekking up and down washing those toddlers! The arrangement at the Lamberts', with a full bath on each floor, is unusual in real life, but common for my sims. Hawkins Prime actually has three full baths on the ground floor and one more upstairs, and they don't seem a bit superfluous during family get-togethers! Running the Casa family of two elders, two adults, two teens, a child, and a toddler, and later a baby, was hell in an apartment with only one bathroom, especially on the two neatniks; and I often resorted to sending them to public facilities. Since then I try to make sure my larger communities have a lot or two with showers on them.

Letting you know this round will be extended at least by a couple of days.

Down my end of the world separate toilets are never called "water closets" (which sounds archaic to me) just "toilets" , with a separate door to the hallway.

I hope you're not still under the weather! If so, that bug must be really persistent.

I hope you don't have what I had, Jo. Body aches, fatigue, a little vomiting, a lot of juicy coughing, and it took me almost two full weeks to shake it. And today I'm absurdly tired again so it's possible I didn't...Take care of yourself and make the family wait on you hand and foot!

Don't read if you are sensitive.
However the rest of my family had a cold with a cough, so now after getting rid of that vomiting bug I now have the cold! So far mine doesn't seem as bad so maybe I missed out on the cough. *touch wood* So yes I am still sick but not too bad. Thanks for the thoughts.

Due to life I don't yet have all the judges scores, so since I like to give you all at least 5 days after I post scores that is why I will be extending it.

I am slowly chipping at the table adding in family names.

That said, I hope the "hot judge" isn't roasting alive anymore. Hot judge, are you alive out there? She's so hawt.

By that I meant changing 'entry' to 'Evan's', Lambert etc, but now I have the third judges scores so I am going to make a start on that tonight.

Toilets separated from the bathroom are very old-fashioned in the UK. Houses from the 1930's had that sort of arrangement.

Want a specific style of house or community building? Why not take a look at my profile and see what I build and then come ask me to make it!

The family dragged me away to watch a double master Chef, so not a lot of scores done but I should get them up by tomorrow night (24hours away) if not sooner.

I'm alive... It got up to 98 the other day. But, now it's backed off to the below-90's, and I'm still breathing. Thanks for thinking of me
Jo - take care of yourself ~ we wish you a speedy recovery (again! ...and for good this time!)

Our 'beautiful house' (that we had to sell at a loss before we lost it all together *sigh*) had 4 toilets. There are only 3 of us. THAT was luxury! ...until you had to clean them all - there's nothing I hate more than scrubbin' terlits. Ugh.

The crap-tastic house we're renting now has 2 full baths - but one has black mold on the ceiling, so we consider it 'condemned'. Which means, all 3 of us are using the tiny "blue"-bath. I am sooooo hoping to be able to move to a new home-of-our-own! The home we're trying to buy has 2 full bathrooms - which seems about perfect to us!

Glad to hear you're still alive and kicking! I do hope that it rains or something to cool it off a bit more. Heat like that just zaps energy. Please stay hydrated.

We are still having to do repair work to my daughter's as she unplugged her computer and playstation a tad late a couple weeks ago, and messed both of them up :/
