Who says The Sims 2 isn't immersive? I'm just thinking I should keep my outdoor boots on because I'm going out soon. Why do I think I'm going out? Well Andrew, in his capacity as Managing Director of Jones & Moltke Construction Ltd., and his Site Rep Mallory Mace, are arranging to take Josh Anderson and his family to visit the new shop we've been building for him. I seem to think I'm going too. Well, maybe I am going, but I'm pretty sure I won't be needing my boots.

Andrew is just telling me that I do have to go, because I've to take photographs, and send them to @Justpetro, for this building contest his firm is entering. You see Jones & Moltke employ me as their architect and general "jobsbody". . . .which means that Andrew is effectively my boss! Anyone else here got a Sim as a boss?

Justpetro was saying something about Trades Union regulations. That makes me think that Jones & Moltke will be getting well paid for this job. Shouldn't I get something too? I think I may need a Trades Union -- the Associated Society of Sims Architects and Allied Workers? ASSAAW?

@AndrewGloria

That sounds like 2 trade unions to me, 1 for architects and one for the workers

Enjoy the visit to the premises! Have a drink afterwards

(Looking forward, Andrew)!

And all my sims boss me around. Which I find immensely immersive.

Mine just do the exact opposite of what I want them to. Consistently. Is this what having kids is like?

Kids? My pug will bark at me on my day off just because she's used to eating at 5AM

In my game I used to leave Cassandra at the altar, sometimes leaving her pregnant first, but I always ended up married to Nina, I don't know, I guess I shipped that couple, since having the same aspirations it seemed like a more equitable relationship, and I also liked how they looked together. XD Obviously they were both cheaters from time to time and I tried to get Don to leave his seed all over the neighborhood.

Both getting Family as there secondary aspiration.

That is after they both got there 3 Woohoo wants filled.

I don't usually change the sims' aspiration as I feel it is part of their personality, but I did use to give them both the secondary aspiration of family, so that they would become a little less individualistic and have more desires related to family. xDD

It also used to make Don have a mid-life crisis and go live alone again for a few years and end up returning to Nina in old age.

Don became best friends forever with Nina Caliente early on. In my game I have a mod that not everyone automatically becomes.

Lucy Burb's fiance was turned into secondary family by her. Lol.

As I'm currently undergoing medical treatment in a different country, and could only pack a few clothes and university textbooks with me, I do not have my gaming laptop or my sim support system by my side, so my boyfriend kindly downloaded Castaway Stories on his laptop for me. I never expected it to be so much fun! I remember playing Sims Stories when I was about 12, but not this one. While I was a bit disappointed that the Polish translation is quite poor (not that the original sims 2 games are much better; the grilled cheese aspiration is literally translated as "fried slice of cheese", whereas mac and cheese is somehow a liquid "hamburger" in a bowl ???) I really appreciate all the new design choices and those wacky wants icons and every love they put into it. The monologue windows are also my sort of humour that you really don't see in media nowadays, so for exploring a new game in this day and age, it's really refreshing. I highly recommend it to those of you who somehow haven't played it yet!

The sequel to my last post. I was actually playing Josh Anderson's family. Soon after Josh's daughter Fiona had left for school, Josh phoned Andrew and invited him round. On arrival, Andrew 'phoned Keith Cormier, one of his reps in Monopolis and talked for a long time on the 'phone to him, no doubt updating Keith to the situation with Josh. Then he 'phoned Mallory Mace, J&M's other local rep, and asked her to come round to the Andersons' house in Bond Street, quite near to the new shop. It had already been agreed that they wouldn't go to the shop until Fiona returned from school, but by this time she was back, and had brought a schoolfriend with her. She and her friend were both hungry, and so by this time were some of the others, so Andrew, with his high cooking skill, made burgers for everyone. I suppose it's part of his way of looking after an important client. They didn't rush the meal, so by the time they finished, it was starting to get dark. Then they spent some time trying to get a casual group together. Josh, as the family member who knew him best, asked Andrew to join the group. Andrew in turn asked Mallory to join, as none of the family knew her well enough. Then Andrew announced that he "had to deal with some things" and went home. Now I really considered Andrew as an essential member of the party so Josh 'phoned him and invited him back. On his arrival Josh asked him to rejoin the group and ordered a taxi. (By this time Fiona's schoolfriend had gone home, solving the problem of trying to get her to join the group. Fiona didn't have the option to invite her.) By the time they had all piled into the taxi, it was after 9 p.m., some eleven hours after Andrew had first arrived!

They were visiting the new shop as an ordinary unowned community lot, so lots of other Sims were there, and they were able to visit all areas, including those which will not normally be open to the public. So we'll treat this as an "Open Day", prior to the official opening of the shop. This also of course means that there can be no permanent changes to the lot, and that nothing can depreciate. In view of the lateness of the hour, it was no surprise that many of the party had motives that were running low, so I installed a Sim Manipulator, and used it to improve their motives. This was especially important for Fiona Anderson, as Sim children can't drink tea or coffee. (Myself I was already a tea addict at the age of six, but I liked it sweet and milky -- as I still do, so there's not much caffeine in it.) So I left them to get with it for the next couple of Sim hours. When I checked them then, I couldn't find Andrew. It transpired that he'd gone home again. I felt his presence was still needed, but I couldn't add either of my two usual Simlogical teleporters (one is only available in residential lots, the other needs Build Mode as it's a garden plant). But I already had a Sim Manipulator on the lot, and I seemed to remember that it could be used as a teleporter, even though I'd never used it as such. Right enough I found an "Enable Spawn Menu" option on the Sim Manipulator, and enabling it allowed it to spawn Andrew. Unfortunately I had placed the Sim Manipulator on an inaccessible part of the lot, and Andrew materialised beside it. So Andrew was stuck in a part of the lot that he couldn't get out of. My first thought was that that's a way that people use kill a Sim -- let him die of hunger. But Andrew is my best friend -- I can't let him die!! He was at ground level, and the only place where there were steps up onto the foundation was next to the street at the front of the shop, and Andrew couldn't get there because there was a high wall in the way! He could get to the back of the lot, and there was a double door there and a staging for deliveries, but Andrew couldn't get there because there were no steps up onto the staging. So Andrew was at the back of the lot, still telling me, "I can't get in!" Well, once again I did something I've never done before. I've often used MoveObjects, but only for its stated purpose of moving "objects". I'd certainly never used it to move a Sim before. So I turned it on, and, right enough, I was able to lift Andrew up onto the staging without any bother. He then gratefully went in through the back door, and I believe he enjoyed the rest of the night. But I can't help thinking that a real life teenage boy with Andrew's level of fitness would be able to drag himself up onto the staging without any bother! I suspect I could still do it even now in my seventies, though I'd probably get a few grazes and scratches in the process.

Allowing Sims to access the new lot for this "Open Day" highlighted a couple of issues with my original design. As I was playing the lot, I became aware of a number of Sims going down the stairs carrying ingredients for meals. This turned out to be because there was no surface for food preparation in the staff mess room. So they were taking their stuff downstairs to prepare on the shop counter! I have now added a basic counter top in the staff room, which already had a kettle, a sink, a toaster oven and a small fridge. At the same time I moved the waste bin to the back of the staff room, I didn’t think it would be usable under the new counter top. (It's the very basic counter top with no cabinet underneath it -- I think it came with University.) Once the shop is open as an owned business, I think I'll try moving the waste bin to under the counter, and see if Sims can use it there. (I think that's where I would put it in Real Life.) Adding this counter put the shop lot over budget, so I took some toys off display. When I was finished the lot price was §37,999! One Simoleon under budget!

Andrew's problem of not being able to get in, highlighted the desirability of steps to get in (or out) at the back. So I added a small flight of four wooden steps to the end of the staging. This added nothing to the lot price, though fitting a handrail to the steps would have cost an extra §12, putting the whole lot §11 over budget! Josh thinks he might add the handrail after he takes possession of the shop. As well as letting Andrew get into the shop at the back, these steps will also provide an emergency exit should a fire ever block the front door -- very unlikely since I've had Squinge's No More Fires mod since 2013!

I find it nice that Sims 2 Legacy works good on the steam deck, it's very comfy to play in the living room docked to the tv and playing with wireless mouse and keyboard on the couch. I just kinda wonder what would be a good way to install mods on it, since it's not native to linux.

Why didn't it occur to me until now that my heretic (vampire-witch hybrid) never needs to go out in the sun? He has a remote garage where he can take the car to work, and since he's part witch, he can teleport to and from the garage.

Not entirely sims 2 related per se… just wanted to say I have never seen this many people viewing the sims 2 section of this forum. At least not since some 15+ years ago. Welcome, lurkers and new/returning players!

I don't understand, what are those bots for? What objectives do they have? XDD Collapse the server or what? The topic about my neighborhoods has had 60 viewers or more for two days and it doesn't seem very logical to me. If it were true, the downloads of my tests would increase.

Web indexing and web scraping, gathering information for search engines and for analytical purposes. Maybe they want to know if MTS is worth spamming, or maybe they have good motives, who knows! Many are benign- for example the crawlers that the Internet Archive uses- but Tashiketh said those were 'chinese bots' so maybe Baidu or something?

I think they're the indexing bots scanning to put the site on their search engines.

At least that's what I remember from when I was helping run a tiny site. They're harmless but some bots are not and that's why you have to keep the filters for them on high.

Bad actors can crash a site fast.

I think there are still a lot around. The number of guests viewing Closed Contests is insane at times. I just accidentally saw that - from 10 or so to 120 in seconds?

I have a bulk delivery of tables with stereos for my hotel. They are too small to be on the floor. These dressers are really nice. I like that each tile has its own slots and you can pack it full of overlapping stuff. But on the other hand I always end up using the same furniture.

I am putting together a medieval neighborhood and I found a taxi medieval default replacement. I was confused when the taxi remained a regular Maxis taxi. Was banging my head against the wall when I discovered that I forgot to put the default replacement in the Downloads folder

Don't feel bad-I could not understand why one of my defaults for the Sellaphone did not show up, no matter how often I looked. It would have helped if I'd taken it out of the zip file and put it in the game folders.
