Either fix the hair meshes one by one by fixing the mesh comments (can be done in Milkshape)

(Just a note, but temporarily remove if you use Homecrafter, it causes a "pink bug" in one of the preview windows. Can possibly interfere one or two other places too, so if you're seeing issues with programs/mods/other shaders/etc., test out if remporarily removing this one works, and put it back again after).

Thanks!

Never been able to make Homecrafter work, so no problem there, but I'll see how many meshes I'd have to fix in Milkshape first.

I do both - I fix meshes I know I'm going to use a lot, plus make sure my stuff has the fix, but considering I have a lot of older hairs (Peggy hairs... those are a nightmare!) and various other things I may or may not care to fix manually (I get hung up in mesh bugs - if I'm fixing this issue, I end up trying to fix everything, which is time consuming at best), so the CAS fix is a must to keep my sanity somewhat intact.

The bug is visible on-lot, too, just not too noticeable if you don't know what you're looking for. It's basically a lighting glitch between the head and the neck/face area that sometimes appears, maybe especially with a lighting hack. I had that glitch on my old computer too, but CAS was fine there, so never realized until my new laptop went full-on bright-CAS.

Interesting. I don't have lazy duchess' bright CAS fix, been meaning to get it but keep forgetting. The bright CAS thing doesn't really bother me that badly. But a while ago I suddenly had a bright pink preview window in Homecrafter and wondered what was going on. I thought it might be a beginning of pink soup problems (which I've never had before), but maybe it'sto do with a mod? I'm going to start testing.

Check your downloads for the CAS fix (it's possible LD included it with one or more other mods as well, so maybe check for that), and it could potentially also be caused by other shader mods.

Homecrafter isn't very demanding compared to TS2 and Bodyshop (unless you've got an obscene amount of wall/floors, maybe?), so assuming you've done the 4GB fix, it shouldn't be particularly susceptible to pink-bugging because of RAM issues and similar. Homecrafter has its own GraphicRules (found in the install files of Homecrafter), so if you've had issues with pink-flashing elsewhere, you may want to check if it has the proper setup (missing lines...).
I've only seen the bug with LD's CAS fix for myself, though (but as said, other shader mods could be causing it)

Homecrafter reads the game files and Downloads folder, so whatever you've got in there could affect it.

Thank you, Simmer22! I'm an idiot. I had completely forgotten that I wanted to try the "Blue snow no more" thing. That was put in my downloads right before the problem started, too, should have remembered that. Well, no more pink preview window with that removed!

What exactly does LordCrumps' shadow file do? It's included damn near everything.

It's shadows from TS4 textures (I think?), where items that requires it are repo'd to it.

(Personally I don't see how useful it is, though - you can make shadow textures quite small, and the TS4 shadow texture I know of is quite big. Haven't looked too much into the files lately, though.

I always thought that TS4 objects didn't work with TS2 shadows for some reason and that was why you needed the file.

If you download a lot of ts4 objects, having a single texture file for shadows will save texture memory and file sizes. TS2 can use any image as a shadow as long as it is set correctly in simpe. If you choose to not use the default shadow from ts4 then you have to remap to a new texture. Since LC converts ALL OF TS4, this saves him a ton of time since everything in ts4 uses that one image for shadows. The same way TS3 does.

So if you love conversions, it's best to use that singular shadow file.

So my simming computer died, and it turned out that the fan on the video card malfunctioned and the video card melted. I found a place that didn't object to working on a Windows 7 machine and they put in a new card, but I don't know whether it's actually adequate to requirements. There used to be a FAQ about graphic cards but I can't find it now, so here I am.

Before I fire this baby up again and resume managing little pixel lives, will an Nvidia 750 do the job, or do I need to go shopping for something else?

Yes, I believe it will since my former pc had a Nvidia 650 and worked like a dream.

Everything uses one shadow file? So, everything has the same shadow?

Yea. So each shadow isn't as detailed. Dunno how this looks in ts4 tbh, and I use very few 4to2 conversions (mostly my own) and they have custom shadows. Most objects are really very similar in shape, so it works decently. We are just spoiled with ts2 and individual legs having their own shadow. xD

Chair legs in TS4 have their own shadow - literally. There are often two shadow parts in a TS4 mesh, one for the main bulk of the mesh, and one for where the chair legs or other small "standalone" bits and pieces meet the floor. That's where any shadow "details" come from. No idea if this is used in conversions, though (could take a look, but not right now).

The actual texture consists of maybe 20+ slightly different shadow blob shapes. Dark, light, circular, square, pinpoint, etc., so the shadow gets UVmapped to the area that fits best.

TS2 has floor + wall shadows (depending on items), and you can make them as detailed (or not) as you please. Anything from blob to clear shape.

Is there any good way of getting Sims to actually dance on the DANCE FLOOR instead of trying to press themselves right up against the DJ booth before they start dancing? Shouldn't it have been obvious that the "dance" interaction should be started like 2 or 3 tiles in front of the DJ booth, instead of 1/4 tile behind it?

Presumably the same thing, the NPC doesn't actually need to interact with the sim in order to fine them.

They turn up pretty quick, you would have to get off the lot pretty quickly.
