Default 1st Conversion - Image clarity issue
I'm trying to convert a TS4 object using TSRW and Milkshape. It's my first conversion or work on a piece of custom content ever and I'm running into an issue I hope someone can provide some guidance on. In the first attempt at conversion I didn't bring the mesh up onto the wall in Milkshape, so the print image looks great but the object itself is floating away from the wall on the ground. In the second attempt, I found the tutorial below which guided me through fixing the mesh location, but now the print images are fuzzy and blown out. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong here? I tried to add a specular and multiplier but that didn't seem to make a difference.

Hello @amb785
I watched this tutorial - did you follow it to the letter?
PixelJackspot does instruct to align your Sims4 pic to the Sims3 pic you are using to clone and near the start advises if you don't your Sims4 pic will float away. If I were you, I would have the video practially 'on pause' as I do each step.
Also the quality of Sims4 textures - there are a few to choose from - so do check and select the best which isn't necessarily the first on the lists.
It might be best to upload your object file, to allow others to check in-game and TSR Workshop to identify the issue.
Hope this helps?
Good luck!

Thank you for the response! The first time I tried to convert I was actually following PixelJackpot's other tutorial for just a general decor object. I did do exactly as you said basically pausing and starting as I tried to complete each step the same way. I loaded my file in game and I was like "It looks so good! It's just in the wrong place. I must have done something wrong." Which led me to finding her actual wall object tutorial which guided me through getting it up on the wall where it belongs. The only thing is the overlay image quality is not as good as the first, which left me confused. The overlays I exported from the TS4 object looked great on the first conversion, but not so much in the second. I did go back through the wall object tutorial again carefully and can't figure it out. I'm happy to upload both versions if there is anyone willing to take a look.

Thinking back on the differences in what I did for the two files, I did see in another tutorial somewhere to keep the size of your file down by only importing a .dds file once. I believe in the first attempt I imported the overlay .dds twice (for each "swatch" or preset) and used it as both the overlay and the multiplier. In the second attempt, I only uploaded the overlay .dds once and used the same image for both instead of two separate images. I'm not sure if that would explain the difference in image quality? I can experiment with that.

I find that usually, textures distort when resized (even a little). Also, depending on the image, you can lose a bit with .dds compression, at least with GIMP.

Hello @amb785
I downloaded and checked the wall hanging in-game and it is floating off the wall and although can be moved to whatever height desired, the depth of it cannot be adjusted.
If I were you, I would retry creating the object from scratch following each stage of the tutorial to the letter - in fact I may try myself using this method and let you know how I get on.
I don't know which of your versions I downloaded, but in my opinion the quality of the image was fine.

Thanks for checking it out! V1 and V2 are both in the zip folder I shared. V1 is definitely floating off the wall, and it does have very nice image quality. I think in V2 I got the mesh edited to be correctly on the wall but that is where the image quality unexplainably is not as good. I'll try starting from scratch. If you do try it yourself, let me know how it works out! I hope I can get these beautiful posters in game in their best form. I would love to be able to convert more things because so much cool stuff is getting made for TS4.

Yes, a lot of nice CC is wasted on TS4! Another thing to try, which does not require Milkshape or Blender, is a simple image swap. That is, if the frame isn't important to you. These tutorials use photoshop (I use GIMP), but pretty much any imaging editor should work. And this way, the frame is already hung on the wall for TS3.
