Cars on apartment lots
I'm sure this thread has been made a hundred tims already.

Is there any mod to make it able to have cars on apartmentlots? I have searched for a couple of hours but havn't found anything.

You must have a garage. I know for sure one lot comes with apartments which include a garage, but I'm not sure about others.

You can have cars on apartment lots with a garage. Do you perhaps mean to be able to have them on a driveway?

You can have cars on apartment lots but you have to have them in garages. They cannot be outside as they will be considered community property and thus not allowed.

You can put cars on a driveway if you use the boolprop aptsublotspecifictoolsdiabled false cheat.

You cannot use them though, can you?

They actually can be used, although I'm sure they'll be "communal" cars if you set them up like a garage. They'll probably work the same way as the garden plots, they reset for the next family.

Ooh, I'll have to try that. I'd never really considered doing that because I assumed the car would not be usable- but thinking about it of course it should work, as the car doesn't have to be owned by the sim to be drivable. I doubt you'll be able to click on it without actually turning on the apartment cheats, though.

I place cars on a driveway while the apartment lot is still zoned as residential. After I change the lot zoning and move a family into an apartment, the family has no problem driving the community car (no cheats involved).

I hadn't really thought of it as a community car, but maybe I should look for some recolors with a "zipcar" type logo.

Yes placing the cars before zoning into an apt does work, they just become community cars, I tried this on a duplex that I made. Each family does have the option to drive the other car (I pretend they don't), both cars work properly, and no cheats are needed to click them.

Oh wow! I always thought they deleted or something once you changed the lot to an apartment lot.

Thanks a ton for the info! It's not something you really think about beforehand when you are building a lot, but it makes a huge difference. I've been a bit wary about using the AL cheats other than to zone for the apartment because either they didn't work in the first place or they did and I didn't understand what they were intended to actually do. Now I can make apartment buildings with covered parking and have the cars too!
