Default Highrise shell sizes - the definitive list
This is a list of the total penthouse space of each highrise shell with the use of restrictbuildbuyinbuildings cheat.

There are some myths floating around the forums that all shells have multiple floors, found by deleting the floor tiles to access the level below--this is false. Some shells allow building up 2 or 3 floors from the default penthouse level, although many do not. None allow building downwards from the default penthouse level. There is no floors between the ground/lobby and the default penthouse level.

All shells have a double-height lobby and the normal availability of basement floors.

Some shells comes in multiple colours, which I have grouped together.

Sorted by total effective penthouse area:

Aquarius (2160 square tiles)
4 penthouse floors of 30 x 18. The first of these is inside the shell and the rest sit on top of the shell as roof levels, limited to the system maximum. This is the only shell not to impose its own roof.

2 penthouse floors of 22 x 18 technical area, however much of this hangs well outside the shell. The first penthouse floor has 12 x 10 practical area within the shell and a 12 x 6 balcony, the second "loft" level has 12 x 8 inside the shell.

I mostly compiled this to prove that the Veranda Villas/One/Two Leo Center is the smallest shell for penthouses residences, despite being the only one that has multiple floors visible by default.

* There are two buildings named The Tidewater. The one in Bridgeport is a copy of The Glass Pillar. The one in the residential bin is a copy of Crescent Bay Plaza.

** There are two buildings named Glenview Manor. The one in Bridgeport is a copy of The Simerset and very short. The one in the residential bin is a copy of the Prosper Room and very tall.

Fantastic, thanks! However, I am curious about your calculations of area and perimeter. Wouldn't a 20x20 square with 1 tile perimeter leave an area of 18x18?

Editing shells makes me wonder if anyone has found a way to unlock community lot shells. Wouldn't it be cool to build apartments in the school shell, for instance?

...or above the bookstore/spa, bookstore, spa, grocery..

I used to use the rugs to create a store underneath an apartment, but it would be better to just be able to put a home above a shell/rabbit hole..

Go suck an elf...
