Default What are your weirdest sim names?
In my time here at MTS, I have read about some sims with rather bizarre names. I've seen names from obscure gemstones to Pokemon! So I'd like to ask you: What have been your weirdest sim names? What inspired you to name them that?

Here's my answer: I believe that the first family I made was the Carr family. The mom was Kia Carr, the husband was Mitsubishi car, and their twins were named Ford (a boy) and Lexus (a girl). I was inspired to do this because of the crappy game known as the Sims 3 for iPod Touch. The only pretty female sim in the neighborhood was named Kia, so I married her every time. When I got the Sims 2, I decided to remake her. Thus, the Carr family was born.

I go after a dark theme for most of my Overlord names. Usually they're just dark-sounding but still rather poetic (Amaranth, Midnight, Severin, Soren, etc). But I did name one Dungeon, and another I named Maiden after the Iron Maiden torture device. I'll probably come up with some other dark possibly-not-so-poetic names as it fits each personality.

Edit: Mine's for Sims 3, but I think the concept is the same.

The Overlord Legacy - Taking over the world one generation at a time.
The Addison House - The reality show where eight contestants are crammed in one haunted house to survive.

The oddest names in my game thus far have been Old Adam (first name "Old," middle name "Adam") and Pitti-Sing.

But they're only the oddest names because the rules of the challenge I'm playing won't let me use "Nanki-Poo."

EDIT: Missed the "why" portion of the question. The challenge in question is Gilbert & Sullivan themed, and all three names are characters from G&S operettas.

I had a thing with naming alien sims after planets/stars/other astronomical items. Andromeda, Sirius, that sort of things. Not the weirdest of names, but not the most common, either. I once had a blue alien kid named 'Blue', in the loss of something more creative.

In my sims 3 game I just had a couple of genie twins. The girl I named Genie (very creative, I know), the boy is Moe. So now I can't help but thinking "Geenie, meeny, miny, Moe". At least I now have a couple of name suggestions for future siblings...

I've done Pokemon before, I've done HP, and Colors, and in the Test of Time Challenge, I sometimes put letters together that make no sense like Sri, Sra, Ati, etc because they're simple kind, and then I've done bland and boring names. I make girl names turn into boy names and vice versa.

I think Maxis has some of the strangest names. Goopy aside, one of my sims married this fugly townie named Magnus. I once went through a phase where I named all my sims after popular math/statistics terms: Fourier, Poisson, Markov, Cramer-Rao, etc.

I name the babies born from alien abduction after constellations. Pascal Curious currently has a son Delphinius from his alien abduction, and his son Adam with his wife.

All of my names make perfect sense and aren't weird at all.

I'm in the middle of setting up a maxis match city, starting from the sim-year 100 when the first settlers came to the plains to grow wheat, and moving along to 494 at the very least before I level it off and say, okay, this is where I want it to be at. 494 is around the mid-1940's, aesthetics-wise.

Then, unexpectedly, one of my mappers got abducted by aliens, and Bleek and Blarn Ambrose were born. Their descendants were Kreel, Panyan, and Virhnich Ambrose.

Define weird?! I use common and unusual names for my Sims. What I don't do with playable Sims at least, are pun names. Well I did once. I named Tara Kat's daughter Alley! But, other than that, names I use, has to go with the family last name, and flow with the family in general. I do think it would be cool to have a theme like River and Meadow, I can see earthy parents for them! I did once have twins named Chase and Hunter! So, I guess I do play a bit. But I wouldn't name a Sim Ella Phant, or Chocolate Cake.

Jared Starchild's wife is pregnant in my game. I was going to name their child Ziggy, but I changed my mind. I decided it would make more sense to get Jared abducted by aliens and name his baby Ziggy instead. I need to change their last name to Stardust though. Of course, when Ziggy grows up, he will have to play guitar and his band will be named the Spiders from Mars. Okay, I'm sure I can't be the first David Bowie fan who has thought of this idea. lol

I made a Sim named Nostrum Hot Pants. I'm now regretting that decision.

I was really bored coming up with his last name, and his first name vaguely reminds me of a brand of cough syrup. Gross, I know. As much as I'd love to change both names, I was too lazy to change them through mods or cheats. But I've come up with a new plan--"Operation Dilute the Hot Pants Gene!" I'm having their son Lance Hot Pants get married to someone else so he can take on THEIR surname--It'll look a lot less embarrassing on their future child's birth certificate.

I don't know about weird names so much for myself but one thing I learned from naming sims is that though I might find the names some people use odd, they're not really odd at all. I realised this because I like to name my created sims (not born in game for the most part) with sort of Everyman names: names that evoke their character or purpose in life. Hence Ego(n) Lovett thinks the world revolves around him, while Cherie Buttercream is an apparently sweet little woman who sucks up to anyone with any power (she isn't, BTW - I mean she does suck up sugar sweet but there's another agenda in there too). OTOH, I do like sims to have what I think of as 'normal' names, by which I mean recognisably British since that's where Little Carping is meant to be. So Egon and Cherie work.

However, sometimes, on my quests to find just the right name for a sim, I have gone on Google hunts (mostly with Thesaurus.com but also, sometimes, on historical and name pages) and have looked at lots of names. It made me recognise that names are quite different the world over and through time and that it doesn't really matter what you name your sims as long as it's meaningful to you.

I no longer come over to MTS very often but if you would like to ask me a question then you can find me on tumblr or my own site tflc. TFLC has an archive of all my CC downloads.

I once made a Weirdo family, because this is what they were, the father wore a kilt and had that hat thing with horns by Maxis, like a Scandinavian barbaric warrior, don't know what it's called. Other family members were no less weird with their looks but I don't remember the details.
Some of the Curious' family alien kids were named Mercury, Saturn, Jupiter and most probably by some other planets too. They also had kids named Paprika and Pepper, Boston and Bristol. One of Loki and Circe's kids were named Vous, I made it up on the spot. I think Strangetown in general had unusually named kids if compared to other 'hoods.

My strangest named sims would be from my WYD challenge as I named them after fruits and vegetables and had way more boys. They have names like Blue-berry, onion and Leek.

Well "leek" is certainly original.

The weirdest name I have given a Sim family (that I can remember) was "Boolpropyapregnant," where the dad's first name was "I'mma." I'd "boolpropped" him pregnant with an alien baby via the Tombstone of L&D. He's now deceased, and his daughter is the Sim in my avatar, whose name is Rosalina. Her first name does not go with her surname... or does it?

Unless I count my "cosmic" names for my aliens (and to be fair I don't) I tend to suffer from normal-and-boring-itis when it comes to naming my sims. I tend to work on a "natural" theme for any plantsims, but they are usually variations on names you'd see in the general populace.

Okay, there was the Star Wars themed family, but for the most part those names aren't odd per se. Well, until you're forced to use Wedge, Mon Mothma and Winter... I had so many girls in that family it was ridiculous - I had to go looking for names as my memory ran dry!

My most unusual names are those I literally make up myself (or steal from sources that aren't officially names of people) - in one family I had:
Sayandra (name of a house in my area), Releeshahn (Age from Myst franchise), Amora, Czan, Allelou, Hyeesha and Gojem (all made up).

No need to use my full name, "Selly" will do just fine.

Hockii Brawnn, Barralus Xenilo, Oleph Westacke & Yuniv Mashanortini are a few weird names that I gave some of the Sims in my 'hood.

Previously known as HarVee. Just call me Yin from now on.

Jack Daniels. Is it a wierd name?.. or not? Because Jack is a normal name and Daniels probably is a family name. so.. who'll solve this mystery?
