Default Katniss Everdeen
Hello there!

I am trying to recreate Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games book series but I'm not quite there yet. A mod sent me here to ask you guys for your opinions, so here I am!
Actually I didn't make her exactly like Jennifer Lawrence, but I suppose it's mandatory here?

This is what she looks like now with reference photos:
I did an overlay in Photoshop and she looked pretty alike, but there is something missing.

Do you have any suggestions?

I do think that generally MTS wants sims to match their characters. I'm not sure if it's a firm rule or anything, but I think it would be harder otherwise. Everyone knows (or can look at a picture and see) what Jennifer looks like in the role of Katniss. Readers of the books will tend to have their own image of Katniss (mine looks nothing like Jennifer or your sim, for example), and those unfamiliar with the movie or the books will only judge your sim on its own merits. So... I think it would be easier to try to match her to Jennifer's Katniss

As far as matching Jennifer-as-Katniss goes, I noticed a couple things right away.

-The skin color is a little off - Katniss has more brown and yellow tones in her skin, while your sim is more pink.
-I would raise the inner eye apex (is that the right term for the inner eye corner?) just a bit.
-I would make her chin a little wider or fuller, but keep the same softness.
-It's hard to tell with the current skin color, and with the tilt of her head, but her nose might be a bit too defined (the shading on the sides of her nose - there's a slider to reduce/increase this, if I recall correctly.
-I would reduce the eyebrow arch a bit, and maybe try a thinner brow if there is one.
-Your hair is a little too red - I'd bring in more brown tones and just keep some auburn highlights.

To get better feedback, I would make sure to include a profile pick, both of Jennifer and the sim, and maybe a pic with her hair up as in your second reference shot. Also, is this custom hair? Make sure you can reference the creator and that it is free for users.

Ah well I see! Jennifer isn't that bad either

I changed her up a little bit based on your advice (see attachments). We're getting there

The hair is indeed custom. I couldn't find anything like it in the game.
But I saved the source somewhere, so no worries!

I can't speak for the mods, but I would think that if you are making a character from a book and state such, then it shouldn't matter how your render the character. But if you present your sim with photo references from a movie, then yeah, they are probably going to expect you to match the actor pretty closely.

Try to get your sim to hold her head at the same angle as the photo reference. It makes it easier to compare. As it is, it's hard to tell if the alignment of her features is off or not. You can usually get your sim to behave if you have them walk forward and then immediately pause the game. Failing that, poses help.

I think her nose is a bit too wide, especially at the bridge. I also think it may be a touch too "tall" (up and down). Her chin width could be a touch wider (if you aren't using custom sliders, then it would be chin scale I believe). I think maybe her cheekbones need to be raised just a bit, and the shape changed (not very much!) or maybe the cheek fullness reduced. Jennifer does not have very sharp features, but I think you sim's face is still a bit "soft" in comparison?

At first I didn't upload a reference and wrote that she is inspired by Jennifer, but I got 1 star on that anyways. Maybe I wasn't clear enough. But now that we're so far it doesn't really matter. I can always make another one based on the books

I'll edit her tomorrow, got to go to bed now~

k2m has it right. If you state that your sim is based on the books and give some of the written descriptors of the sim and work on those, that would be fine. But if you say that she is inspired by Jennifer Lawrence, then she becomes a sim that's based on a real person and needs a comparison picture. You can see this upload to see how someone uploaded going off book descriptions.

As for the comparison pictures, k2m also has the right of it and some better angles from straight on will be better for seeing what her face looks like comparatively. I'd suggest some custom sliders for her septum width as it looks like it should be narrower. Her eyebrows should be lowered some and perhaps lessen the curve some.
