  • the picture that is on the cardboard a Sim tries to eat when going into aspiration failure

On the "for Girls" board there are
  • three pictures that are on the front of children’s homework
  • and another painting that can only be obtained by having a Sim paint using the easel

And on the "Music" board there is a picture that is on the cover of the music hobby magazine.

Is it also possible to find pictures from objects like those, that aren’t buyable objects, by using the object workshop recolor trick?

I think you can clone anything with object workshop, but shouldn't be necessary to create a recolor to extract the textures. You can probably just find them all in objects.package, if you know how to look for things there.

Easel paintings were uploaded by Echo https://modthesims.info/t/385690
They cloned the canvas using Object Workshop, disabled the TGI IDs fixing to get the TXTR files of the paintings.

I would assume some would be in object workshop. Might need to be cloned first. Plenty of non buyable items in there.

I will leave others who know what they are doing to poke around in the objects.package.

Whenever I try to search for one, all I find is tutorials on how to extract a Sim's portrait.

Textures are located in your game files, Double Deluxe\Base\TSData\Res\Sims3D and for later EPs it's just the 3D folder not Sims3D folder. The LIFO are in objects7.package thru objects8.package, these are the larger textures and most every object does have them. The TXTR are in the objects6 file. These are small and not good quality typically.

You can also clone pretty much anything using Object Workshop as mentioned previously.

Ah yes, I think scrolling through the LIFO works best for me. Thanks a lot for letting me know which object packages exactly contain those and where to find them for both BG and EPs.

Thank you so much to everyone for their help! It's very helpful to know what can be done with the object workshop and the object.package files.

Hey, can someone point me to a tutorial on how to clone a playable sim's looks into a cas template?
I started a new neighbourhood but I grew attached to this one sim and would like to have him again in this new good. Also, will having him have the same name, surname and traits mess up my game in any way? About the cloning of looks part, is it okay that this sim Is a plantsim, or do I have to convert him back to human, or does it not matter?
Thanks!

^ Here: https://pixel-trade.livejournal.com/16091.html - makes him into a template sim (not a template face, though)

He can have the same name and surname, but there could be some confusion around who's who, so it can be a good idea to add or change something in his name so you can tell them apart in menus and such. He can have the same traits without any issues.

Not sure about the plantsim question, because there could potentially be some issues in Bodyshop because of the skin overlays and hidden items. Same with other supernaturals. Could be an idea to temporarily cure him.

Important (if stupid) question: How do you play Myshuno? I'm going to have to learn things like that if my proposal to become a Sim and move to Veronaville is to succeed. Mind you, the evidence of what I saw yesterday suggests that quite a few of my Sims are uncertain how to play too.

Supplementary question: How much room do you need round the Myshuno machine? I realise that my original idea of placing it in a corner of the restaurant isn't working. Does it need to be accessible on all four sides?

All Sims are beautiful -- even the ugly ones.

They stand in a wide circle around the Myshuno game, so it needs to basically be in the middle of an empty room. It's like 3D bingo, I think.

You can put it at one end of a room with a bunch of chairs facing it and people will sit to play (see the Soci Quad at LGU for an example). The hardest thing about Myshuno for me is being sure I've faced it the right way. The side with the bit that points upward is the front.

If no-one joins them, some sims will play Myshuno on their own! So it can give fun even if no-one else joins in.

Is making a backup of a neighbourhood folder enough, or do I have to backup my whole The Sims™ 2 Ultimate Collection folder every single time?

Depends. If you don't have any mods that bring in additional NPCs (i.e. multi-PT mods, farm animals), you're fine with just the Neighborhoods folder.

I usually back up a combination of hoods and my Downloads folder, but I do have a very small Downloads folder to begin with.

Technically it's enough with just the Neighborhood folder.
However - I'd also add on the Downloads folder, because if you want to use an older neighborhood backup and don't have the downloads for it, you're in for a very long and annoying searching round to figure out what you've used. There's also the NPC issue mentioned above, and potentially other mods that could prove annoying if removed improperly from the game (such as multi-PTs and similar).

I usually back up the entire folder, since this also saves my current settings and UserStartup (in the Config folder), downloads folder, camera settings (I use a custom camera), Paintings folder (custom paintings), packaged lots, and various other stuff. I feel that's easiest, since I don't have to remember which folders to keep and not keep. I really don't feel like digging around for all of these files every time.

Sometimes back up just the hood other times back it all up. It depends how much you change and add elsewhere too. If you constantly download and or sort downloads you may want to also constantly back it up. If you build and package lots to file a lot then you would want backups of that folder more often too. Whatever changes.

Thanks for the help! One more thing (for today at least), I added a University hood to a new clean Strangetown... But I forgot about downloading clean templates for universities too. If I haven't loaded that uni yet and just added it in, can I still replace it with a clean template one, or will it corrupt my game? Sorry about all these questions!

You could have only reverted to a backup that you had made before adding a campus. Once the campus is there, firstly, it can't be deleted (the game doesn't allow you to delete the last campus from a neighborhood), and second, even if it could be removed, the Sims (source of potential corruption) will not be removed with it.

Turn on debug mode (testingcheats) and then when you hover over the recolors it will tell you the GUID. Then you should be able to search in SimPE. Or at least, that's how it works for buy mode objects.

Does anyone play in the hoods that came with the expansion packs? Like Desiderata Valley and Belladonna Cove?

All I hear about are only Pleasantview, Strangetown and Veronaville.
I never really had the want to play in the EP hoods myself, the base game ones just seemed more interesting to me.

I was actually going to ask the same question here, Bagel, but thought I should slow down with posting a bit as I see myself too often on the main page and feel bad lol

I was always that person who had the most fun in their own hoods, but enjoyed Riverblossom Hills when I was younger. I was always into living off-grid as a concept and a neighbourhood that came with a seasons pack made perfect sense for that. I don't think I liked the premade families very much apart from Leod McGreggor, but the area has a nice quietness to it and it reminds me of visiting my grandma who lived in a village with no internet for ages (which is something I find very romantic as a gen Z lol)
The hoods from Freetime and Apartment Life I've had a look at, but never properly played in them. I don't find them all that interesting or unique. Unlike the first three hoods, they don't seem to have a general theme worth digging deep into, they seemed to be made very quickly and without much thought. Even RH felt like it was done pretty creatively, whereas the newest two are very copy and paste in advertising the packs' new features.
Which makes sense and I can't blame the creators for doing that, but in such case I'd rather just make my own neigbhourhood.

Define "too often." Post as often as you have questions or something to say. Everybody likes a lively forum and it's not as if you can hog it. We have all seen people rip through a newsgroup trying to promote something, ranting about irrelevant things, or picking fights, and ugh, yes, that's annoying, but you aren't doing that. As long as you're more or less on-topic and use good manners, you'll be welcome.

Anyway. The original three neighborhoods will always be what you see posted the most of. There's no way to get reliable statistics, but between longevity, familiarity, and the boost provided by the complex starting situations, their only rival for actual play will be hoods created by the player, which are necessarily unique. Players are less likely to feel secure sharing their custom hoods than those that they know an audience exists for, while those who specifically want to create riffs off of the starting material to share will gravitate toward the most popular and familiar characters and the more complex situations. So for internet presence, there's a huge bias in favor of posting the base game hoods over the others.

Since people worked out how to convert main hoods to subhoods and especially since Tarlia's versions became available, many people play megahoods or uberhoods that include all the premade neighborhoods, so those people are not limiting themselves to the base game hoods.

I have a retro game setup in which I have made over each premade neighborhood to suit a different timeframe. Pleasantview is a mish-mash; Strangetown is the 60s; Veronaville is the 40s and a war zone; Riverblossom Hills is in the Great Depression; Desiderata Valley is in the 50s and serve it right; and Belladonna Cove is in the 20s. The one I play most often is Riverblossom Hills, as the Seasons and OFB expansions between them make "rural America in the Depression" a straightforward gamestyle to set up and play, and the neighborhood only requires a little tweaking for aesthetics to make it fit the premise. I play DV least, because the 50s sucked on so many levels and so does DV. I'd play Belladonna Cove more often if the apartments weren't so easy to overload with beautiful Jazz Age CC so that they crash unsustainably.

They don't make it to the front page as often as some perennial threads, but in this forum you will find "What did you do with" threads for each of the premade hoods and many of the neighborhoods people have made to share, so if you are interested in seeing how other people play one specific hood, it would be worth your while to dig those up.

Ugly is in the heart of the beholder.

Not sure if dumb question, but...is it possible some sims are just...asexual? I'm asking because I'm currently playing Veronaville, and Kent Capp has gone on several dream dates with a headmaster brought to him by the matchmaker. Every date (except for the first one), he hasn't rolled ANY romantic wants for his partner during the dates (aside from wanting to have a dream date), and the headmaster, who is a Family sim, only has G-rated wants like playing, dancing, etc. And they're both 3 bolts and have a male gender preference, with 100/100 relationship. It's driving me nuts because this is their fifth date and neither want to get married lol. Not even giving Kent a secondary Family helps!

However, Kent Capp has rolled several wants for, including to flirt with, his brother-in-law Albany.

So, yeah. Are some sims ace or is this couple just stubborn?
