I'm almost done. I have one thing that isn't repo'd the same as all the other windows and doors for that type and need to either fix it or have one window that's the wrong color. But my overhead shots are almost done.
?1. Are you wanting side views of our lots in the required section or the add'l 20?
?2. Do you want grid lines on or off in the overlays?
You haven't seen much of me on here this week because I'm trying to avoid seeing everyone else's work.
And I just wanted to say my biggest building disappointment this past week was discovering one cannot build a pool right up next to a pond. So sad. (Yes, I had to exit my lot without saving to get the pond back.)

@Deatherella : I'm pretty sure I've seen a tutorial somewhere on MTS for making a swimmable pond. Not that I've ever made one of course. Such advanced building techniques are, I fear, far too complicated for the likes of me!

Just front, back, and floorplans in the required. Side views should go in the additional. (But, I'm not too worried about picture placement... just make sure you have them all.)

...2. Do you want grid lines on or off in the overlays?
Off, please. It is easier for judges to see things without having to see past the grid lines.

Been there, done that. Then went back and addressed it again after I got the hang of the Grid/Lot-Adjusters. ...still not right. But, I had fish swimming in my pool! ...and in my house! ...and on the road. Oi!

Oh, have you tried to click Tab before taking a photo?

You can make a post and add spolilers later. People here will tell you how🤗

Oh! Don't quit!!! We are all here to help!

Yes, hit 'tab' in game - that takes you to "camera mode" - and the in-game grid-lines disappear.
And, that is not necessary - I just think it is helpful for the judges.
You can post pictures with the grid-lines, if that is the only way you can do it.

To create a spoiler you just type the word spoiler with these brackets [ ] on either side.
Like this:
And anything you write here, will be hidden
Then when you are done writing everything you want to say, you type spoiler again with a back-slash / directly in front, and both brackets [] around it,
like this:
bracket, which, if I had typed, would have hidden all the words I typed. LOL)

I have to admit, in my current reduced state of health, to feeling extremely relieved when Cat got enough contestants and judges for the contest to go ahead without me having to do either. I am however watching this contest, and in the end couldn't resist attempting a play-along version of the Downtown "Crack House". I'm not sure if I completely understand the "fix or flip" rules, but, as an unofficial "play-along", I reckon I can interpret them to suit myself and my Sims. I want a house that can be used in my game. For my game there is little point in building §100,000+ mansions, as hardly any of my Sims could ever afford to buy such an edifice. So I decided to makeover the house to a price-point within the reach of most of my Sims. My aim was to meet all the requirements, while, if possible, keeping the price below §20K -- certainly not going far above that figure. I suppose that makes it a "fix" rather than a "flip". If, as stated in the download text, a comparable improved house in Chicago would sell for around $418,608 in Chicago, it's clear that none of my Sims will be moving to Chicago in the near future. I don't think that will unduly bother them though -- like myself, they all think Veronaville is a better place to live!

As soon as I started, I realised I had a problem: Cat's download house was made with Mansions & Gardens, so I can't open it in my game (highest EP OFB). So I had to build it from scratch using Cat's pictures as a guide. I think I got the size and position of the house more or less right. My pond is different but in roughly the right place. It's as good as I can get it. If I were doing this "for real" I would have tried to go CC-free, but since I'm only playing along, I'm using a little CC. Anyway Cat's house uses some things from later EPs/SPs that I don't have. For instance the nearest thing I have to that metal roof is a CC Old Metal roof. So I've built it much as I usually do when building for my Sims. One interesting feature from Cat's build that I've tried to keep is that split level staircase. (It's about as fancy a building technique as I ever use in normal building.) I've used the Holy Smoke stairs for the upper part of that staircase, as it's open underneath. I believe there's a mod that makes the space under such stairs usable; could somebody please give me a link to it? (Or I could always ask in WCIF.)

"Opportunity awaits with this solid, metal-roof home located in the heart of Downtown, just a few blocks from the Sim Center Parks." This is where I've placed it in downtown Veronaville:
It's just across the road from P.U.R.E., so that will be an obvious place for the new residents to go on outings. This was the nearest vacant plot in the northern part of our downtown area.

I understand that "Crack House" usually means a place where crack cocaine and other narcotics are bought and sold. To the best of my knowledge nothing of that sort is going on in downtown Veronaville. But in Ireland, Scotland and northern England, the word "crack" can also mean entertaining conversation. I'm using the word in this more innocent sense.

I did more work on the house this morning, and I thought it was just about finished. The total price was §19,981. But then I realised that the house didn't contain a bookcase. That's not on Cat's required list, but it's on mine. Sims have to learn something about cooking before they can be let loose on the cooker. Adding even the cheapest bookcase would put the price over §20K. So I replaced the dining chairs with the cheap §80 folding chairs. That let me add a cheap bookcase and we were still within budget. So much so that I could also also add a cheap armchair to the sitting room. And the price was still §19,981!

Well the only way I know to tell if a house is really playable is to move Sims in and see how they get on. So I made 3 Sims in CAS and they moved in. For the way I play I found I had to quickly add 3 CC items: the Sim Manipulator, the Batbox, and the Simlogical School Changer. Now the Sim Manipulator is free, but the Batbox and the School Changer cost §1 each, so that brought the price up to §19,983 -- still §17 within budget! My Sims seem quite happy in their new house, but it's still not quite 11 a.m. on their first morning. So I'll play them a bit longer and see how playable the house really is. I'll try and post pictures tomorrow, but since this is a totally unofficial and uninvited play-along, I don't suppose it matters if I post a day or two late.

Default Round One Entry - Downtown House
Beautifully updated two bed two bath located in Historic Downtown! Boasting an open plan layout and a brand new garage, you'll feel right at home. Enjoy the gorgeous professionally landscaped yard with its stunning water feature for fishing and relaxing. Move-in ready with a new roof, stylish details, and insulated windows! Find your own newly renovated paradise nestled between local hot spots P.U.R.E. and Crypt O’ Night Club. Please call to schedule a viewing of your new home today.

From what I can tell, house flippers want to spend as little as possible but price the house for re-sale as if they've used thoughtfully-selected quality materials and not whatever was on sale and in stock at the Big Box stores. Keeping costs down also means not relocating plumbing lines or adding walls if possible so the house is still pretty recognizable. My sim tried to use what was already there are much as possible (e.g. the stucco, the IKEA mirror, and the range hood was painted). He spent §19,740 on the lot and §41,661 on the renovation. He needs to check with his cousin in Real Estate but he plans on listing the house (in desirable Downtown!) for §129,000. My sim could profit §77,000 if his price is right and it's a seller's market.

CC-free! Built with only Maxis build/buy catalog content and design choices but I do have mods like Lamare's Shiftable Everything and Menaceman44's ceiling light fix.
All the shrubs and flowerbeds are accessible for gardening and there wasn't any foot-stomping during play-testing. The upstairs hallway is only 3x1 and full of doors but Priya and Sanjay lived there six sim days and didn't get stuck. Most of the end/coffee tables have the center slot empty for all the newspapers and mail piles (can you tell I missed my cc mailbox shelf)

@peachy123uk - I need to correct myself
It's not "tab" that takes away the grid lines...
Although it does put you in camera mode,
...but to loose the grid-lines you need to hit the 3-dots (like you are about to save your lot, or leave the game.)
And if you are in night-time, to get rid of the grid-lines you need to select a terrain paint - dunno why, but that works.

I have run out of time to take photos and upload tonight - it's currently 11.30pm in the UK and I'm too tired to do it now. I won't be able to do it until the afternoon tomorrow as I'm teaching Sunday School in the morning.

Want a specific style of house or community building? Why not take a look at my profile and see what I build and then come ask me to make it!
