This mod has been replaced by my all-in-one hybrid stabilizer mod:

This is a script mod. The contained .ts4script file must be placed directly in your mods folder or at most 1 folder deep or the game will not load it.
While this mod was originally designed to fix issues with mermaids, it is usable without island living. It fixes many annoying bugs and issues with hybrid occults.

Hybrids aren't "officially" supported by EA, so there will still be some remaining issues while playing them that this mod cannot fix.
Please read the known issues list before downloading so you know what to expect.
Please report any issues the mod may cause which are not listed under Known Issues.
You will need to use debug cheats or a mod to make your sim into a hybrid.
(Seasons only) Vampire-Mermaids without sun immunity STILL cannot swim in the ocean while holding an umbrella during the day (Not really a high priority bug to fix...). Use the umbrella rack to put your vampire-mermaid's umbrella away before trying to kill them in the sea.
A mod born from the frustration of an angry simmer who was enraged at the unplayable state of hybrid mermaids. The fury of watching mermaids swimming in the ground and walking on fins was enough to drive the disgruntled simmer to madness, forcing him to learn how to mod the game so he could remove the grotesque sight from the game.
This mod aims to fix some of the main problems with hybrids to make them actually playable.

Editing A Hybrid's Occult Forms

I recommend AGAINST adding both vampire and alien to a mermaid. Having that many occult forms causes the Alien form to always be in danger of being deleted and regenerated every time you load into the game.
Known Issues
Compatibility
Because this is a pure scripting mod, it should be compatible with nearly any other mod in existence. Only mods which try to modify the mermaid form or script mods which override (not just inject to) the following script functions would cause issues - (I'm not aware of any such script mods which completely override the functions).

- The mod will now disable itself if all-in-one occult hybrid stabilizer is installed (to protect people from themselves).
- Added a new feature for mermaid hybrids to edit the mermaid form in CAS. Simply switch your sim to their swimsuit before entering CAS. If your sim is in their swimwear and in their human form, they will enter CAS in mermaid mode.
- Cleaned up the code for a minor speed improvement.
- Minor bugfixes.
Update: 2020-9-27: Removed the preview version and merged all of its changes into the main version. Added the following additional fixes:
- Removing the mermaid occult through cheats or commands will now remove all hidden mermaid traits normally removed by the use of mermadic kelp (The hygiene need overlay, tail visibility in the bath). You may need to close and reopen your sim's needs panel to see the hydration need properly update to back into the hygiene need (this bug is visual-only).
- Toddler and child occults will have their occult form data cleaned up when the game is loaded. This allows them to properly generate mermaid forms without missing tails when aging into teens.
- The alien occult is no longer allowed to drastically alter the human form of newly-generated alien townies. This fix is intended for people who use story progression mods to populate their town with sims from the gallery.
- Modified the alien Alter Disguise interaction with the following behavior: If the sim possesses an occult type without a form (spellcaster), they will appear in CAS as that occult type with full access to all of that occult type's CAS items.
- Further improvements to stability related to CAS.

Preview version has the following fixes:
- Entering CAS will no longer endanger a hybrid's occult forms. You must enter live mode with the mod active to enable the protection. Entering CAS will cause the CAS screen to render your sim as a pure occult. The occult will be chosen with the following priority: Active Occult Form > Mermaid > Vampire > Alien > Occult Types with no forms (Spellcaster)
This protection will extend to the entire household while in CAS. - Hybrids can be properly saved to the gallery without their forms being erased as long as you have entered live mode to enable the protection mentioned above. Hybrids will not be flagged as modded and will appear as normal sims of a pure occult type.
- Hybrids will permanently have their optional occult forms enabled. (CAS-related fix)
- Hybrid Vampires will properly have the "manual dark form" trait removed when switching forms outside of the intended interaction. This fixes the bug that prevents vampires from being able to switch back into their dark form.
- Hybrids should now be able to plan their Batuu outfit.
- Aliens can now safely alter their disguise using the in-game interaction.
- Significantly reduced the risk of a hybrid's occult forms being erased/overwritten when loading a saved game. Only affects saves made with this mod active.
- Reduced the chance of hybrid children being born with skintones that neither parent has.

Main Hybrid Fixes
- Mermaid hybrids will correctly switch forms when entering the bath or exiting water.
- Hybrids should now be able to switch directly between their occult forms without getting stuck in their current form.
- Hybrids entering the water while in other non-human forms (Alien, Dark Form) should correctly switch to mermaid form by first reverting to human form for a split-second.
- Hybrids exiting the water should correctly return to their walking animations instead of swimming in the land. (Note: Doesn't work if you use a "Teleport" cheat to move your sim out of the water. Reset your sim if you do decide to teleport).
- The game will no longer attempt to corrupt your game by adding non-existent occult types.
- The game will no longer attempt to destroy your sim by deleting their human form.
- The game now forces sims to generate their alternate forms the instant they gain a new occult type. This fixes a game-breaking EA bug that can happen to normal sims even without mods which can render a sim permanently unplayable.

Known Issues
- The Spellcaster life state locks you out of your other forms in CAS if you have additional occult types with extra forms, like vampire or alien. The workaround is using the edit occult forms mod.
- Alien-hybrids may have their alien form completely randomized when loading into the game. EA bug that they need to fix. Exit to main menu and reload your save if this happens.
- Vampire-Mermaids cannot spend vampire perk points. That's a UI issue that's outside the scope of this mod.
- Seasons: Vampire-mermaids who are weak to sunlight are unable to swim in the ocean if they are holding an umbrella during the day. Not really a high priority to fix...
Compatibility

- has_occult_type - Allows mermaid hybrids to switch out of mermaid form on land.
- add_occult_type - Forces the game to generate a new form when an occult type is added (fix for mermaids having no tail).
- remove_occult_type - Prevents the game from deleting forms that don't even exist.
- switch_to_occult_type - Now forces occults to first swap to human form when switching between forms.
- validate_appropriate_occult - Switches the sim in or out of mermaid form when loading into the game or when a sim is spawned/reset, depending on if they are in the water or not.
- on_sim_ready_to_simulate - Allows custom traits which add the "manifested" vampire/spellcaster traits to progress their experience rank. (compatibility for "fake occult" traits)
- evaluate_appearance_modifiers - Allows appearance modifiers to properly work for occult all forms.
